is it just me....
Anyone else sort of confused on why AT&T doesn't pick up or reguest Motorola to develop higher end Droid handsets?
Is it to not steal the thunder from the iphone or is there a deal with Verizon to keep the uber nice Driods away?

Personally I think crApple keeps a tight rein on ATT in order to keep the competition light on their "exclusive" network. Obviously this is in the process of changing as we get closer to the release date for the iphone to possibly go elsewhere imo.

It is curious. Three Android phones from Moto and not one has a camera better than 3-megapixel? That's just weird.

It seems like AT&T has been slow to introduce Android. If my memory serves me correctly, they were the last of the Big 4 to introduce an Android phone, and that was the disgraceful Backflip.
Why are you so behind the game, AT&T? Your exclusive relationship with Apple is coming to an end and you're going to crumble if/when VZW gets the iPhone. Name one advantage that you have over VZW other than tiered data pricing (which can also be looked at as a disadvantage especially for iPhone users).

that sounds plausible to me. perhaps VZW is using the highend motos to be there ace in hole against the iphone. that is, until VZW can get the iphone for themselves.

For ATT the only serious contender to the iphone is the captivate which is really long and tall, not my cup of tea. The Sony one is a joke. Wish ATT had a htc desire type phone.

The Android Market started as a competitive edge to equal the iphone. Motorola probably has some kind of deal with VZW right now. Plus, wouldn't you make higher end products for a company that doesn't sell what you're competing against?
Now that APPLE is in talks with VZW, and eventually T-Mobile and Sprint, it won't be about if AT&T gets more higher end Droids (like the Captivate) ... it will be Droid vs Apple. Droid sales might fall when this takes place. If I were Motorola I would probably be making higher end devices for VZW just to say, "Hey buddy, remember us? We still love you."
Not to mention, Apple has a set of rules that put AT&T retailers through the ringer. I wouldn't doubt it if AT&T starts getting higher end Droid...
