Patent for Automatic Updates?

That patent is pretty old, but at the time it was filed software updates were not handled automatically. Things we take for granted today were not so commonplace back then.

Why don't you patent a method hereby which you waste forum space?

I think his point is that everything *does* update automatically these days, so the patent cannot possibly be for anything important.

For example, just today the following automatically updated on my computer: Adobe Reader, Flash Player, Windows, and Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Somehow I doubt that all of those companies are paying Apple royalties on their alleged patent.
