Many small carriers are being bought or acquired by the bigger carriers and have the ability to offer more to it's subscribers. While the technology of broadband is evolving to accommodate video more effectively, The carriers indeed hold the cards in delivering more bundled services efficiently. I feel the union between cable companies and telecommunication companies working as two different entities is better for tighter management. I can however see this possibly working for Cox "If" they are willing to invest into the 4G of the carriers as did Time Warner and Comcast. Otherwise, Cox is going to struggle to give it's subscribers a more competitve rate in comparison to what the carriers can in overlapping areas. Still, I would find this mov...

The landscape here looks a little different from a technical aspect. New technologies allowing the conversion from their backhaul to IP based call routing. New technologies have become available to use VOIP like options to the carriers to hit another companies network. Doing this will eliminate paying the incumbent LEC for every connect and disconnect that leaves the Cox network. Better termination agreements can be signed with other carriers that choose to use this technology. I see technology like this becoming standard as 4G begins to evolve into a mainstream service that will be available like 3G is today. This technology actually helps level the field with smaller carriers, as they don't have to bow to the whim of the LEC any long...

Being a Cox customer I would add that these guys are loaded with extra cash and in general, I think they are a company that has it's act together.

I guess with that combination, they can afford bold and risky moves
...
