The M-SPAM Act would prohibit marketers from sending SMS pitches to landlines registered to the Do-Not-Call list and all mobile phones.

Someone want to explain how you send an SMS to a land line???

maybe there's a reverse to services like alltels: "voice to text" and possibly a txt to voice.

i've accidentally txted landlines before and i get prompted (with at&t) that if i want to translate my txt to a landline its 10 or 15 cents, something like that

i used this with alltel when i had them and it works just like that, you text a landline number and it will ring and ask if you accept the message and a voice will read off the text over the landline

I sent text messages from a Verizon phone to other Verizon landlines frequently. It costs the sender 25 cents to send an SMS to a landline. The recipient gets an alert, and then the SMS is read to them over their phones.

Interesting! I guess it just must not be available on AT&T.

If it costs the sender 25 cents, though, it doesn't seem to me like it would be very appealing to spammers. Their whole operation is based on the fact that they can send the spam essentially for free. Since text messages have to go through a carrier gateway, it seems like SMS spam is something that really wouldn't be viable anyway.

Huh. I would have thought that they'd have advertised that in my bill at the very least. I've honestly never heard about this, and I've had an AT&T cell phone (through it's various incarnations) for ... oh probably close to 15 years.

Though since I automatically toss out anything that comes in the bill besides the bill itself, that probably explains why I didn't know about it! 🤣
