This is actually kinda neato - it's something that has a lot more potential than the pre-packaged ephemeral junk that MobiTV & the like have had for a few years, and potentially a bit more than the MediaFlo stuff that the carriers have been shilling for the past year.

Of course, there's almost no way something like this would ever be brought to market, just because there's almost no way for carriers to monetize it, and by the time it gets to market, it's likely mobile web & TV services will be to the point that competition from broadcast TV won't be a big deal.

I agree, this is awesome!

I don't agree that it won't come though - carriers are already getting 'yelled' at for crippling different phones built in capabilities, ie GPS, but they are loosening their grips at bit (aka VZW!),

I think all it will take is a carrier or two to be an early adopter of NOT crippling the technology for others to follow suit and/or the smart folks out there who hack the phones and get us work-arounds!

yay LG!

They've tested it on the Voyager which is Verizon specific. I don't know if that is a good or bad sign. Verizon is notorious for crippling their phones. I love this potential feature but I fear it will never blossom in the US.
