AT&T probably will not get this phone.
So far, the only carriers carrying the phone are members of the 'Open Handset Alliance'. Only T-Mobile and Sprint are members from the US. Verizon is contemplating joining, however AT&T is not a member, and have not stated any intentions to join. So AT&T will not get this phone, unless if they change their mind.

Besides, there is no AT&T 3G frequency on it. Android won't be much fun without 3G.

I think they won't join, since Android is a competitor to the Apple OS on the iphone. The devices compete with each other.

AT&T never said they wouldn't carry an Android phone, and for the near future that seems about right. As far as competing phones, AT&T carries, symbian, iphone, winmobile and blackberry is someways they all compete with each other. I can see in a year or two, that they will carry an Android phone.

The odd thing is Sprint they are in the open handset alliance and I have yet to see any hint of anything coming their way. They seem to have all their hopes in the Palm Pre.

At&t will not get an android phone unless they join the open handset alliance. So I don't forsee them ever getting an android phone.

i dont see sprint lasting too much longer on the market anyways.

with carrying around nextel as dead weight. they have one foot in the grave and are leaning forward.

verizon will get an android phone with the lte drop. at&t will get one eventually too. everything takes time.

Actually, there is a strong "rumor" that Sprint and Samsung may have an Android coming out in June. It will resemble the Omnia and more so the Instinct. Again just rumor.

Your argument would almost stand up except for the fact that TMobile Germany has both the iPhone and the G1. Carriers could care less if phones compete against each other they are in business to stay in business which means selling more phones.

I am sure it is more likely that Apple put the squeeze on ATT and threatened to pull the iPhone is they joined up with the Open Handset Alliance.

Thing with Apple, is Apple does what Apple wants, AT&T will just be at the end of a long list of business partners they have screwed over. If AT&T wants to join the Open Handset Alliance, which they can do at anytime, they will. Its not like joining the Skull and CrossBones. People make to much of a big deal over it anyway. If AT&T and VZW so wished, Google's and HTC boys would be on a jet the next day to cut a deal, make no mistake about.
