This is what irks me with most (US or NAM) reviews of Symbian devices: everybody gets hung up on the "fluff" of the OS - fancy transitions, zooming in/out/through, basically all the stuff that eats up processor cycles for what amounts to entertainment value.
I enjoy S60 (my current S60 device is a 5230) because it does what I need it to do - place phone calls and send/receive messages! Just because it doesn't swoop through screens like Tom Cruise in Minority Report doesn't mean that it isn't functional. I'm with you, hepresearch... I like what I see, because it's familiar and comfortable.
Those of us who've used (and stuck by) S60 know that S^3 is huge improvement under the hood. Native Qt bindings and development, S60 compatibility, memory optimization...
But, since it hasn't changed the icons and grid spacing from S^1, obviously it's doomed to failure. Rolling Eyes
