These phones seem pretty sharp, but I think there will be some disappointments...

I personally like and enjoy S60, and so I am glad to see that Symbian^3 doesn't seem all too different from S60, but I know there are alot of people who, unlike me, will be disappointed.

Also, the battery on the E7, like the N8, is not user-interchangeable. This is one of the worst features of the iPhone... who at Nokia decided this was the way to go?

Just a couple of thoughts to get the discussion started... anyone agree or disagree?

I think the C6 is pretty sharp. I don't like the bulbous designs so the C7 fails me on that point. The E7 also looks nice.

As for S60...I personally like it. I've had my 5800 for over a year now and have come to love S60. It may be plain and minimalistic at times (though the new FW helped by bringing some eye candy) but it just works, and on weak hardware at that. Maybe the learning curve is steep, but I find S60 pretty easy to navigate. With the promised changes for S^3 (one tap everywhere, widgets, etc.) I think it'll really rejuvenate the OS, along with easier SDKs and just the QT framework which should spur on apps.

So in conclusion, I agree with you hepresearch that there will be a lot of disappointed people who just pass over Sym...

This is what irks me with most (US or NAM) reviews of Symbian devices: everybody gets hung up on the "fluff" of the OS - fancy transitions, zooming in/out/through, basically all the stuff that eats up processor cycles for what amounts to entertainment value.
I enjoy S60 (my current S60 device is a 5230) because it does what I need it to do - place phone calls and send/receive messages! Just because it doesn't swoop through screens like Tom Cruise in Minority Report doesn't mean that it isn't functional. I'm with you, hepresearch... I like what I see, because it's familiar and comfortable.
Those of us who've used (and stuck by) S60 know that S^3 is huge improvement under the hood. Native Qt bindings and development, S60 compatibility...
