This is a good company, plus they're huge in Chicago, it pains me to think that verizon will probably want to get their greedy hands on this network too. Sprint is too broke to buy anything so we don't have to worry about them but if uscc sells i know a lot of people that would switch to another provider just so they dont have verizon.

I work for a VZW retailer in South Dakota. In SD and ND, the two main carriers are VZW and Alltel, and in NE, it's Alltel and USC. So VZW will acquire the Alltel towers in NE, but will have to divest ND and SD. USC would be a perfect candidate: expand their regional footprint, go head-to-head with VZW, etc.

Which is why Verizon probably won't be able to pick up USC: too much of the rural areas that VZW picked up from Alltel would have to be divested if big red acquired USC. They wouldn't gain much.

You are correct. Verizon is not going to be a player unless they sell of small bits and pieces of U.S. Cellular, which would be silly. These minority investors need to sit down and shut up.
