How can other companies use someone else network and offer a much better deal, i.e. Boost uses Nextel and they offer unlimited everything for $50 and no contract, but Nextel will cost you twice that and a two year deal.

I can only speak for Nextel and Boost. You go for Nextel and you basically get a wider array of phones and protection of that phone. Your Boost phone breaks and you have to buy another device. You can't get it fixed either. So imagine blowing $100 on the nicest Boost phone out and then having it break...gotta buy another one.

But I agree. It seems strange. But I wouldn't want a pre-paid phone and I think most people are like that.

A lot of people who subscribe to these two carriers prefer to use unlocked phones and like the fact that for a flat monthly fee they can have unlimited service (granted in major markets - not off the beaten path) without committing to a contract. 70 dollars for unlimited phone use on the ATT network sounds great to me, especially without a contract. Conversely, you have people who want the latest and greatest phones at a substantial discount. These are the people that would stay with ATT. (fyi - i am with verizon).
