Why Not?

Why shouldn't a buyout, merger or third party aquisition happen?

I think it would provide a a step closer to creating a more competitive capalistic market due to the large gap that is being created by vzw/att over the rest.

It would not place them in the same league customer wise but it would expand their native markets and able them to provide a more national footprint.

A finacial advantage would be realized with reduced roaming cost and a postential stratgical possition with other carriers like (metro and cricket) to stop exclusivities and require 3g/4g roaming.

Any thoughts?

This would never happen, because it would require that Cellular South produce capital for the buyout (which it doesn't have) or be bought out by someone else (which the owners would never allow).

CS is a family business (a very successful one), and that limits both its potential for growth and the probability of being purchased.

What might happen is that with VZW's roll out of LTE, VZW effectively eliminates CS and someone gobbles up the remains; but even that's not entirely probable.

Cellular South will never be taken over...willingly. I remember when Alltel made it's hostile bid for CenturyTel and was rebuffed. Eventually, they settled and CenturyTel sold their wireless side. Mom and Pops never want to give in because everyone in the corporate offices will be let go and these are usually family members. It would be nice to see CellSouth grow a little but all that is available that makes any sense is Southeast Alabama and South Georgia divested Alltel and that would leave them needing to build out most of Alabama. They would be better suited doing exactly what they are doing...shoring up Mississippi.

Verizon use to access there network when in Mississippi, as well as there EVDO network in Tupelo. Now that Alltel was bought by Verizon, we access Alltel's network, and i love it. There 3G is all over that state. There are some spots where it is not strong, but Verizon will add new towers and upgrade old ones.

I hated it when they moved CellSouths SIDs up above Alltel's way back when.

me too. Im happy Verizon bought Alltel in this area. AT&T has become crap in Corinth-Tupelo, MS. Everyone is excited about Verizon buying Alltel. Cell South runs off a PCS network, Alltel runs off Cellular.

Cellsouth doesn't have to many options as far as this goes.

They are a private cell provider which means that don't have the share investors to back the acquisition financially. Even though it might seem like a good idea to go public and find investors this would just hurt the company. More than likely if Cellsouth went public Leap or Metro would step in and pick up the markets then clear the company as well as its subscribers.

Way back when Metro Pcs was a private company they did things for the community and actually cared about employees. But once the power house pre paid company went public there were to many hands in the pot and that is something Cellsouth is trying to avoid.

Think about it this way. Your an employee at a CellS...
