This is good strategy that was expected.

Sprint has wanted to be first out of the gate with 4G. This position validates that goal. Since WiMax is very similar to LTE, Sprint has also strategically placed themselves in the position of switching to LTE in plenty of time if needed giving them very competitive leverage for a great footprint in 4G with either technology. I commend Sprint in this strategy.

My interest however, has always been towards WiMax for the pure aspect of choice and hope this may remain the case.

Exactly, plus, I think WiMAX could very easily be used for one thing and LTE for another. If Sprint continues to own most of Clearwire, they could choose to gear that service to a niche customer base. Basically tell them, hey, this is a alternative to your Cable/DSL. While LTE can be used for more mobile customers.

I love Sprint, but I think they should jump on the LTE bandwagon. The vast majority is already gearing up for it.

WiMax is already here so why not use it. Maybe WiMax can provide 4g service to customers who want it now and dont wanna wait years for LTE. Also they may both find a niche So WiMax can coexist with LTE. With all the technology that will be using WiMax its worth looking into. Atleast we know if LTE proves to be the clear victor Sprint will have a LTE network. 😎

Personally I don't count a measly 2 cities (Baltimore & Portland) as WiMax being "here" as you. When 25/30 cities have WiMax then WiMax can be referred to as being "here".

are you any more here than a yet to be conceived child....yes, you are.

i understand your position, but must completely dissagree...

if its in place and working than its much more "here" than another "in development" technology.

Fair enough but that is little consolation to those who are not in areas that are covered.

Wrong again:
LTE won't be "years" down the road
WiMax makes little sense for Sprint long term
WiMax and LTE aren't going to be best buddies 🤣

Im definately not a Sprint fan but I think it would be a great idea for them to choose LTE instead of WiMax. Sprint is the only carrier so far that has choosen wimax.. This can come back and criple them if its not deployed correctly. They will not have other carriers to fall back on. They will not be able to obtain roaming agreements from other carriers. They will exhaust their funding for network development. Also, handset manufacturers will be more concern with making the latest innovating phones for the LTE standards because there will be 5 times more of a demand than phones with a Wimax standard....
