Plus not to mention, they are getting an 8.8% hourly raise, which we get no raise.

I think you'd have to work for AT&T to be part of that union. Lets not forget you'd also have to pay union dues as well...

Union dues are nothing. Its like may 1.5% to 3% of your paycheck. For what they do for you its worth it. I worked for at&t for 3 years and paid my dues every paycheck and never really used the union before. Then I got fired unlawfully because my manager was a jack a$$ and they fought for me and got my job back as well as back pay for a year and a half that it took to get everything over turned. SO its worth the little money you pay.

Yea when ATT unionized, the same group was trying to get T-Mobile to go union as well and T-Mobile made it VERY clear their stance on it. We had a company wide meetings explaining how they feel we don't need it...and to be honest, we really didn't then. But fast foward a couple years and commissioned been cut in half 2 times (once about a 1 1/2 years ago and just this month with the "Simple Comp" plan) and they gave none of the sales reps raises this year.
They use the declining economy as the reason for use not getting a raise, yet they posted a positive increase in revenue...My co-worker over the last three consecutive years has made $4,000 less each year

"Yet you still have a job....... "

Yea, your right. You know who also has a job? The 8 year old making 12 cents an hour, working a 12+ hour shift at a sweatshop making products you've purchased at WalMart at their "Always Low Prices".

Now that maybe a drastic comparison but you see where I'm going with it. Companies who are making substantial income year after year should not be able to use the recession as an excuse to lower workers standard of living, while they stuff their pockets with money.

I'm aware their are plenty of unemployed people who would love to replace me but it still doesn't make it right...

Can you not understand the cell phone companies are all Billions in debt? Are a few turning profits, yes! Do they have tens of billions in loans to pay??? YES!!!!

These businesses have a business model based on a percentage of profitability which they need to hit to pay vendors, creditors and employees. In order to grow their business they need keep profit margins where they target so they can invest in their future.

Take a look at the American Auto Industry, 5-6k of every new car purchase goes to salary and benefits for Union workers that are grossly overpaid for working in an assembly line!! They have minimal skill and knowledge as a whole and no other job training. Look at where the auto industry is at and ask yourself if you want ...

They aren't using it as an excuse. The profitability of the commission structure is based on the sales rep selling what makes the company money, not what makes the rep money. That's why the change to simple comp. T-Mobile is the only company to not cut jobs in the last year. Everyone else seems to be cutting costs by doing that instead of tightening belts and working hard for those bonuses.

1% raise this year with 500.00 lump sum bonus upon ratification of contract. 2.5% in 2010, 2011, 2012 so the raise IS spread out.

This is an 8.8% raise over 4 years. Essentially it is 4 raises over four years averaging 2.2% per year in increased compensation. Plus you pay roughly 3% of your wages to the Union so 1-2k a year go to the Business that helps extort your employer that feels no loyalty to you because your loyalty is to a Third Party Business that only cares about your dues because they are a business.

Finally a poster that knows how the union operates!
There was a time when unions made exceptional restitutions in favor of ALL parties involved. Now it is motivated by the same corrupt practices as the companies they are fighting against. Private jets, corporate vehicles. All expense paid vacation trips and...

You guys know that you don't have to pay union dues at at&t and you still get the raises. Also if you don't pay your dues you can still call the union if you are about to be disciplined and the will fight for you, not as hard, but they still will.
