You know it says a lot when the Gov picks at&t as their primary wireless go to carrier for handsets and service in an emergency. Sorry Verizon but at&t is just better...

Handsets maybe, and then probably only because 99% of the phones are quad band GSM, so they have a greater variety that work overseas. They also mention the wifi capabilities and blackberries, of which VZW doesn't have any.

However, they say nothing of emergency preparedness and service for AT&T. In fact, VZW is mentioned specifically FOR the quality and reliability of their network during major emergencies.

Based on this, I wouldn't say AT&T is better. They just fit a different need for FEMA, just as VZW does.

Actually, IDEN PTT was the only service working in NY on 9/11, and for Katrina Sprint was the first handing out phones and setting up Mobile Service Units throughout the area... the only logical reason for this deal is pocket linings... as for Wifi and Blackberries, Sprint has both.. Third, considring that this was a deal for the Federal Emergency Management Authority< where does international travel become necessary as a factor??

I have to disagree with you here. Space aliens don't just attack the US. They take the whole world hostage and I'm not so sure we can rely on Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith to bail us out a second time! Just an observation 😁

Keep in mind that the White House signed a 5 year contract with VZW. Stop flaming and get a life.

Why would "the White House" sign a FIVE year contract with VZW, when a Presidential term is only FOUR years long? That makes little sense to me.

I think you have the logic scewed, it says a lot about Verizon. Verizon has the technology and the bandwidth to maintain communications during a emergency/disaster. They have the technology, bandwidth, and personell to deal with congested networks, physical network failure/damage, and remote location communications.

Yeah thats great they get to use AT&T BB's during the regular work week, but when SH@T hits the fan, they will turn to VZW to ensure that communication is maintained.
