The fact that this phone has a add-on keyboard doesn't call my attention so much. I'd rather have a phone with built-in keyboard like voyager or env2.

Also full html? will it have java and flash? i don't think so which is a cons against these phones.

But I guess we'll wait and see to redeem my NE2 and hopefully that rule of having to pay for VCast like it or not like with the PDA/Smartphone doesn't come on effect any time soon.

There is no such rule requiring the $15 Vcast feature and hopefully there never will be. Someone needs to go ahead and make a phone which has full HTML and a great calendar for the folks who complain about not needing a data plan. I don't know if this is it, but it would be nice to have something like that to overcome objections.

The reason you have to get the $15 VCVP is because you will use up far more than 7 MB ($1.99 per MB) per month if you browse just a handful of websites without it. You can gripe about a $15 bill or a $65 bill, but truth is the $15 is much more affordable if you actually use the web browser!

Is the $15 VCast Vpak a feature you HAVE to KEEP on your plan after you purchase the phone?

??

With the G1, you NEED to have the Data Plan when you sign-up but you dont HAVE to KEEP it after the 1st month. Its only for start up.

Well, after speaking with him it makes me understand that its a feature to keep with all VCast phones, same thing they're doing with smartphones/pda's now.

Not sure if they will let you remove it later on but i'll ask him next time he comes around our store.

There's just no date for this also...but i'm sure if this really comes out it will screw a lot of customers who want to upgrade or get a new service that wants a V Cast phone.

When I talk about the G1 to my customers that dont really want Data (lets not get into that) I mention to them that they can remove it after the 1st month. This helps with the decision of buying the phone for those customers. If you can do the sme with VCast, this could help those customers of yours who may be on the fence. Keep us posted on that.

VCAST is not required on the phone and can be removed, but it is highly recommended if you browse the web or download lots of things so you don't get a $50 data usage charge every month. Do note some online retailers will charge back the phone's cost if you reduce the value of your plan during 181 days or so from when you buy it. That's true of all phones purchased on a contract that way.

If this happens, I don't see it being on any phone that doesn't have a full HTML browser along with several other features we most likely don't know of yet.

My son has the Dare and he has the VCast package, but I still see about $17.00 over the $15.00 in data charges every month. Does anyone know why this is? What's the point?

He probably subscribed to several Downloaded apps. You need to look at your billing details (Verizon has that online for free, My Verizon) to see exactly what they are. Some programs are monthly subscriptions and not one time purchase download forevers.

Sure, and while we're at it, let's make a phone that has a keyboard for messaging that doesn't use a texting plan and a phone with awesome voice quality that doesn't use your minutes.

I'm all for better integration with Outlook or other calendars on phones that don't require a data plan, but if one of the reasons for wanting this phone is to use the internet, then pay for the internet.

Not that simple. Some folks want the PHONE for all the OTHER things it can do besides internet. Maybe ALL they want it for is Text Messaging. Why should they have to also get the internet?

I can understand where the customers are coming from. Its a hot phone (in general, this applies to any phone) and I want it but I dont care for the internet. I can still use my camera, video recorder, voice dialing, make phone calls, text message (rather then email) and listen to music without data. Yet, they are asked to add something they wont use. I can still play with the Touchscreen AND Keyboard without data. It still does all the things it was ment to do minus 1.

So, your 100% correct. If the reason for wanting this phone is for its internet, ...

My question is why would anyone get this phone and NOT use the internet? It is capable of full HTML which alot of phones are not capable of.

If your answer is because of the "other" features then why don't you get a different phone that is specific with the feature(s) you are wanting and save the trouble of worrying if you have to have a data pack or not. Or just get the data pack and quit crying... $15 dollars... big whoop! 🙂

Again, its not that simple. In some cases....they are only getting the phone because thats the Hip phone to have.

For example...Some folks get Blackberry's for status (all the other big guys have Blackberrys at the meetings and you dont want to look like the odd man out).

Dont misunderstand me, I agree with you. They should get the phone that best suits thier needs.......but......that isnt always the case.

There are a lot of people who can't afford an extra 15 bucks in their budgets, so big woop it is.

And before all the other crap. I don't know what my son does with his Dare, but every month in addition to the $15.00 I see another $15.00-$17.00 in "data"; he says if the phone says you will have to pay to download something, he doesn't do it. So I'm not sure what the deal is, but these phones end up costing a lot more than the $15.00. I'm kind of thinking I should have just got him the STorm he wanted. It might have been cheaper...

Yeah it can get pretty expensive. Just FYI if you're seeing extra charges that means he's downloading music, games, or watching paid video. The 15 is for unlimited data, content is extra.

Yes, 15 a month is far too much, but spending $250 up front for the phone is well within their budget. At least enough to complain about the 15 if the requirement ever goes through (which it most likely won't for this phone).

fyi, that phone if broken into payments is $21 a month over 12 months or nearly $11 a month over 24.

The "I can't afford it" argument wears pretty thin when the customer making it wants a high end phone for their Coach bag and they are driving around in a brand new car (which a lot of people making the argument are).

Then if the person who can't afford the $15 should get a phone that is plain and doesn't have all the extra features if they are not going to pay for the cool features or actually use them.

The point is it shouldn't be up to the carrier to TELL the consumer HOW to use a phone that the consumer OWNS! ! !

It should be up to the OWNER of the handset how they use they're handset!

Being TOLD how to use something that is mine really pisses me off! ! ! ! !

It is up to the consumer how they use the phone!!

IT'S SIMPLE, GET A PHONE THAT DOES NOT NEED AN INTERNET PACK OR SPECIALLY MADE FOR THE INTERNET IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO USE THE INTERNET!!! WHY WOULD YOU BUY SOMETHING AND NOT USE IT UP TO ALL IT'S CAPABILITIES!! WHAT A WASTE IN MY OPINION!!!

It has partial flash support, it can play flash videos encoded with the sorenson or on2 codecs and can play mp3s wrapped with a flash player (along with whatever other mp3 capabilities it has, some websites use this to play music...)

Whatever FlashLite can do, it can, as that's what it's using.

I agree, that was my 1st thought Jeff. It all looks and sounds great on paper. Yet, "Detachable" has never really been something that has been done right.

Aside from our point (accidents happen) that Detachable = Increased Chance of Breakage. Theres also the fact that in todays world we are trying to make a universal remote out of everything. We want to carry as little as possible but have access to as much as possible. Music phone with camera: eliminates the need to carry a Mp3 player, camera & cellphone.

With this though, I would have to carry my keyboard around just incase I did want to use it or I would have to keep it atached if I didnt want to carry it seperate. Either way, if I seperate them I have another item to carry around a...
