Nokia CEO: We're Exploring Laptops

There are definitely Pros and Cons to this move that pique my interest. The Pro that stands out is possibly a new OS for the PC industry. This Pro however, contradicts The major Con that especially stands out. It is the fact that the PC market has been tanking. It brings to light that major PC makers such as Dell,Acer,Toshiba and others are subsequently entering the Smartphone or "Mini PC" arena to be competitive with the future. So my question would be:

Why should Nokia seek to make a move toward a hurting industry that otherwise is moving in the direction that they(Nokia) already have a substantial footprint in?
