Nokia Broadens Cost-Cutting Measures
This just goes to show...
That this industry is not as recession proof as people once thought. When the biggest maker of cell phones starts cutting back jobs, closing down factories and asking employees to "voluntarily" resign, you know things aren't going good. I really hope this is short term and doesn't carry on too long. It would be a shame to see top manufacturers go belly up. This is going to be a tough year for the industry, from the manufacturers to the carriers and every employee in between.

Theres a lot of movement right now. People are starting to spend money again. Theres a lot more bargin shoppers then ever before, true, but those are shoppers none the less. So far the 1st 2 months of the year have been good for the cellphone company I work for. We did better numbers for 1/09 then 1/08 (my location at least). 2/09 is trending to do better then 2/08 as well.
America tends to forget. Or, at least, we try to anyway. We deal with it as it comes to us and then once its salty in our mouths we try to forget it. This applies to a lot of things. In this case, we are trying to forget that we are broke. So we treat ourselves to a new model cellphone and enjoy the fruits of our labors.

I agree with you about Nokia. Im not saying theyre going to close up shop and be no more. I think their going to come out on the other side of the tunnel just fine.

I agree with you Haley. Im somewhat depating with you just to kill some time in my day. Though you are right, I still feel your allowing the hard times to turn you into a skiptic.
Ok, so I agree with you on things like TV's (honey, we already have a TV that works just fine, lets wait till something goes on sale), Bluerays (My HD TV wouldnt be right for a Blueray, I need a Plasma....hmm, I guess DVD's will just have to do for now). I also agree (and like I said about bargin shoppers) that most phones sold will be between $25-$75 range (i also believe the plans will be in the same range - I been selling the 300 my faves a lot more the 600 for all of 09). I don't care if you make fun of Bush. I'm neutral when it comes to politics. I am excited that companies like HTC and Samsung are making better and greater phones. Things like the Touch 2 and Diamond 2 and the new OmniaHD are killer phones. I cant wait till they are released on a US carrier. Its nice to see the innovation is still there.

I will bet you $1 that it goes up in less then 8 months, if not shorter. It wont go right, but it will go up. To go right will take a lot longer, but, not to go up, I hope.

I have a 8310 Curve. Ive had it for about a year now and I love it. I cant tell you the number of times google maps has kept me from getting lost. I almost bought the Bold when it came out, I had my credit card in my hand and the only reason I didnt is because of the MWC and I knew new phones were comeing out and I would want one. And sure enough, here comes the Touch 2 and Diamond 2. I know I shouldnt be thinking about buying a new phone but I want one of the Touch 2s. That thing is sick. I bet its the best phone out there bar none.

While I do agree that the 8900 is a cool phone... The BEST might be a strech. I mean it doesnt even have 3G. Whats that about? In my humble opinion, I think the Bold is the best thing out. With the Fuze being a close second. Im not saying that all other phones are crap. If you look at specs and the performance of the phones its self and how it lives up to those specs, there isnt a single phone that can touch the Bold. It rocks in every single thing that it does. And Im not talking about the carrier and the coverage of said carrier, Im talking about the phone. Thats just me, Im not trying to argue with anybody. There are tons of cool phones out there for every carrier.

Well I would have to say that my location is doing better than before. People have cellphones but are always wanting a cheap way to upgrade to the newest devices. Subsidies make that possible and also makes it profitable for the customer, the carrier and most important my family. Recession maybe but people still have impulses and they will continue to act on them until the day they die. đ
