A measly what 2mbps? I AM NOT talking about advertised speeds nor theorical speeds. Using a USB modem what are the real world speeds that AT&T's network is capable of in February 2009? I'd like to know what we get for the $60/mo they charge.

Preferably someone who actually has an aircard or usb modem fro AT&T respond.

That was using a tethered AT&T Tilt with my laptop.

Granted it's not usually that high.

So the network still has a long, long way to go before actually being worth $60/mo.

AT&T employees at stores tell me aircards get faster speeds using aircards than tethering a smartphone.

I get good speeds on my N95, but that's probably only because I heard Opera upped they're servers, not because AT&T upped they're network.

That is why I welcome every competitive solution out there. Wi-Max, LTE...whatever. Get it out there and let the public decide.

The current network cap up here is 1.8mbps. It may not always be that, but that is the ideal.

I think there was an article about Nokia hitting 128mbps or something near there in a German test market. 😳

Those speed runs are using the full bandwidth available by the cell site. If ten people were downloading at the same time, they would not hit that kind of speed. The network speed is capped per device so you don't end up with:

1: A phone with a 10 minute battery
2: Clogging up the cell sites with pr0n downloads
3: Customers complaining when their Wireless internet is too slow because of 2.
