T-Mobile Waiving Activation Fees for the Weekend
Some what not right...
The full email I rec'd says:
Starting in mid-December 2008, T-Mobile eliminated the $18 upgrade fee that applied across-the-board to all handsets (including the T-Mobile G1) and in all channels (e.g., retail, online, etc.). This is not a holiday promotion, as there is no specified end date.
As for the activation fee, T-Mobile is offering an Activation Fee credit between Feb 13-16 for customers at retail partner store locations, online at www.t-mobile.com and by calling T-Mobile Customer Care.

I can understand eliminating an upgrade fee. I also understand that retail stores as well as corporate stores can sometimes offer weekend...
