if you have the phone longer than 3 days or use more than i think 10 minutes on the device you'll have to fork out a $35 restocking fee.

Only if you are returning the phone because you dont like it but want to stick with verizon.

If you use over that amount of time (in our store it is 10 days, 1 hour of talktime) you basically made the phone plummet in value so that all the store will get for it is a "used" price or the price of what it's parts will sell for.

The fee is there to keep Cronic returners and impulse buyers. a typical high end dumbphone (like the voyager) has a shelf cost of 400. After it is used that shelf cost falls to 150 or less. That means that verizon is eating 215, and all they are asking for you to cover is 35 to make you think a bit before you buy the device.

Yeah, it's totally unfair... 🙄

You try buying a car and returning it after...

Well this just makes me laugh! No wonder people are going to Costco to buy phones. Cheaper prices, free accessories, free activation and that restocking fee well you can use the phone for 10,000 minutes and they will still let you return it without having to pay that fee. If Costco can do it why is Verizon Corporate making them shell out money because all Verizon is about is Money I may have and sell Verizon but I do agree the fees paired with the high priced plans make people wonder everyday if "The Network" is really woth it.

Costco does not:
Offer support once you get your phone set up
Pay commission to their salespeople making them want to get you with the right phone and right plan.

THey also purchase the phones directly from the manufacturer and most likely have a different deal worked out with them.

On top of that, their phone sales are a very small part of their total sales, so if they lose money in that department, they will make it up in another.

So buy your phones from cosco, but if you have problems try going back to cosco and see how that goes for you.

Oh, and if you do that, don't ever complain about the lack of high paying jobs because you are contributing to the issue to save $35 on a phone every two years because you can't be bother...

Well actually being that they are in a member enviorment the customer service is top notch most of the time. How do you know if they get paid commission or not. Did you know that they employees at the phone booth are not Costco employees. Costco does not even set the price.

Example Motorola W755 Costco $29.99 All accessories included and free activation

Corporate store $80.00 + $50 for accessories + $35 activation fee.

Oh and as far as the people getting paid dirt in that Kiosk well let's just say that you would be amazed how much a person their makes.

Want Member style customer service goto Costco
Want DMV like service we corporate may be the place for you.

Sorry, I dont work corporate.

Costco makes up money in other departments, and yes they do set the prices. If they dont then the kiosk is owned by another company and to get prices that low you are required to sign up for certain plans (as what wirefly does)

I went to a costco looking for my first phone, I also went to a sam's club. They are nothing but order takers who say yes to everything.

I actually work for the kiosk at Costco (wireless advocates)

Yes we do get paid commission, and typically we'll return the phone as long it's not damaged. We do try to offer the best service as we can (or at least feel like lol)

Our biggest disadvantages compare to corporate are the following:

1) We do not honor the New Every Two (we are a dealer after all)

2) Small selection, we typically only carry 6 or 7 phones

3) You have to be a Costco Member, we can't sell it if they are not members (which sucks for us)

Our advantages?

1) Usually cheaper
2) Instant rebates
3) 90 day exchange policy (no fees)
4) Free activation
5) Free accesories (car charger, case and headset)

I can go to Carmax, buy a car, drive it for 5 days as much as I want (even over $2000), and get my full refund! 😁

Any good business needs to have a good return policy. Verizon's just blows... Well, Verizon Blows in General.

Once people abuse that priviledge it will no longer be offered by carmax either.

The reason verizon could offer the exchange with no fee is because it was a rare thing. Then people started inpulse buying phones that were terrible for them (as in 60 year old men buying the dare as their first phone) and then returning it over and over. For verizon to continue offering that service they would need to increase the price of ALL phones to compensate.

You can blame AT&T's move on pricing the iPhone 3G so low for this price differential. A high end device may cost $400 or so, but you have to sell it for $149.99 to match online price. Couple that with the $100 NE2 rebate the customer (used to) get and that means they get a phone for $50 with a $50 rebate for an upgrade. Even when you factor in commissions and stuff the store still eats $300 on that deal. Go look at what the phone costs retail price no contract. Then look at the contract price. Big huge difference.

Is this just for returning phones? or also if you don't get coverage etc with a particular phone and want to exchange it for another one.

I honestly haven't seen a HUGE difference in coverage between phones. I mean in the basement / elevators of certain buildings my Moto E815 was excellent, whereas other phones would drop once in a while.

I've NEVER had to return a phone because I didn't like it. Thats part of doing research BEFORE you buy it. Read reviews (both professional and personal ones) as well as play with it in the store. You should know ahead of time what the pros/cons are .. just like when you buy a house, a car, a tv, a refrigerator etc.

I hate people that are repulsive return artists because they just "rent" things. ...

Return for any reason or exchange for any reason no restocking fee or use fee what so ever you can do an exchange as may times as you want or return it as many times as you want without any penalty. If you can find a phone you like you will save some serious cash unless you have that NE2 Credit but hey looks like that won't be a disadvantage anymore!

Read his post. He was saying people complaining about restocking fees should do their research instead of complain. nice try though.

to answer his question, the restocking fee is only if you return it for not liking the phone itself. if the phone is defective there is no fee.
