We lose the ability to call 911 when the local government have the ability control what we can do with the cell phone.

It's not like this system is being handed over to a little kid that doesn't know what he/she is doing. It is a complex system that requires training, like everything else, and I feel it will be used for the good. I'm tired of our laws protecting criminals. Plus if the police are jamming the signal, then don't you think the police will already present at the scene?

I'm not quite as trusting with the police as you are. There are many cases where private information has been unlawfully accessed by law enforcement for personal benefit. For instance, I could see a cop jamming his ex-wife's cell phone.

Perhaps if states/cities were held financially liable if 911 calls don't get through due to police jamming, it would promote some responsibility.

1) If it's complex, the criminals will find a way to use it to their advantage.

2) The most corrupt area of business is the U.S. Government. They have been trying to pass a bill for years on eaves dropping on phone calls. This is a back door entry for that. They will, without fail, abuse this power and no one will be able...

I don't want the police in my town to have that power. As it is they beat up unarmed handcuffed suspects and shoot people in the back AND raid the wrong houses in drug raids. I agree with Ben Franklin.

Actually its exactly what will happen, there is no reason from the to use this technology, and it will be abused.

Even in a high profile area of the US, what is this going to do? If a bomb is set off, its too late already. What this will end up being used for is crowd or information control. Everything from riots to ...

More to the point, these systems are already available. They are not complex and they do not require any sort of training to use. Flip a switch and they're jamming. It's not legal to use them in the US, but you can buy them and own them. (Laws in your state may vary.)

That said, I do think that the Federal law should be loosened. I think there are specific situations where non-Federal agencies should be allowed to use cell phone jammers, the most obvious being prisons.

I do not agree with the desire to allow police to use them at their own discretion, however, nor do I think that the use of portable devices should be legal (except as is already the case).

I do volunteer work in prisons. Any cell phone is considered contraband, even if I bring my own in and don't give it to an inmate. So if I'm following the rules, I wouldn't be able to dial 911 from the prison because I would have left my phone in my car. So I'm ok with cell jamming in prisons, as long as it doesn't affect people in residential areas around the prison.

I dont think that state and local government need this type of technology. It will be misused under their approval this is nothing but trouble. State and Local government must not get this technology because it will def be misused more than once. Imagine all they will have to do is cut your phone line and turn on the jammer and you have no way to get any help to you..... just helpless... Bad idea

I agree with everyone who thinks we shouldn't hand this technology over to Barney Fife.

There have been to many instances of shoot first ask questions later, just look what happened when cops were given tasers. 😕

Absolutely..The pigs have too much power as it is and they love using it. There has to be a limit on what they are allowed to do. They try to play god too much right now as it is.

Never ever should this be allowed. It's tyranny and oppression. After the Bush years and the erosion of our constitutional freedoms how can anyone be so naive as to believe such power would not be abused? This power is not needed to protect us from terrorists. That's their favorite excuse - It's needed to fight terrorism". And people like texaseagle buy into it. What a joke!
