Nextel has always had a stronger network than Sprints CDMA.
Sprint only has the advantage on them with the EVDO DATA
That has now stopped. Sprint and Boost are now re-investing in iDEN and bolstering both the network and the phone lineups.
Although iDEN is an ancient technology and probably should be phased out, that is definitely not what Sprint is doing right now.
And Boost definitely did offer CDMA phones and service. That was their entire unlimited offering in 2008. If you wanted prepaid, you had to use an iDEN phone. If you wanted unlimited, you had to use a CDMA phone.
QChat? Nice in theory, but I haven't seen any new QChat phones in quite a while, and I wouldn't be surprised to see no new QChat phones going forward. I suspect that tech may be headed for the grave as well.
I don't think most people fully realize just how much Sprint has changed strategy in recent months. They are going in the exact opposite direction compared to a year ago.

No, iDEN does not have to get "off of the 800 mhz band". They had to re-arrange it to address interference issues, and yes it was expensive for everyone, but that is mostly complete now.
