Kept with the same date, and let those who did not switch suffer without TV! It may do some people some good to get off their asses. 😳

We still have three weeks before the transition that is plenty of time for people to get their converters. How much time do people really need? Whats to say come June the same people wont ask for another delay.

The "reason" behind the delay is not the availability of converter boxes...it's availability of funds to cover the subsidizing of the boxes. Lame excuse. 😳 People are used to waiting months to get rebates anyway.

Many people are used to the fact that rebates are like health insurance: designed to prevent payouts, or minimize the ones they do have. Ever wonder why some rebates have terms that rival some contracts in length?

Those stores may all have them in stock but you need a coupon to buy them from those stores. The government ran out of money to issue those coupons to people.

People don't need the coupons to buy the converter boxes. I've sold plenty to people without the coupon (at WalMart).

You need them to get the the $40 credit. Why pay $50 when you can get it for $10 at walmart.

I totally agree. They've had how long now to switch or get the converter box's? Months, right? This is why our society is so messed up right now. We have to take care of and hold the hands of people who are too lazy or too broke to get with the program! I'm sorry but come on!!! Its time we start taking responsibility for our actions and SO WHAT if you cant get TV anymore. If you cant afford it then you probably shouldn't be watching TV in the first place. IMHO

i think what is funny is people are gripping about how much they cost to get these converters, (after the coupon) that i have to often question should they be watching tv or maybe getting off their bums and contribute to society. i just dont see why we have to give anybody a coupon to get it cheaper, unless there was money set aside from the sale of the bandwidth for this situation, but then again if you didnt jump on this when it happened tough beans..

im sure ill have someone on here grip about this ohh you dont understand. lol i do and i do pay my way. and dont bitch about it.

I have been watching OTA DTV for at least 3yrs, perfect picture, no static, no ghosting/double image. And I am not rich btw, just a $10/hr security guard who works as much OT as I can get.

People have had so much time they could have gotten the cost of a DTV converter from frinkin cans on the street for the past !!YEAR!!

The only real reason that people could possibly have to whine about is that the change was "forced" onto them, nevermind the fact that the government is handing out those coupons. Our country is full of these kinds of people. I mean, most of us work (or at least have worked/are familiar with) in the cellular industry, we should have a VERY good idea of these kind of people. I REALLY hope no one that posts on this website actually needs one of these converter boxes, because if they do, we need to send them back to school to relearn how to read.

Its easy to say people should stop complaining but those converter boxes are around 40-80 dollars even with the coupon. Some people just don't have that to spare. If you have to decide between spending 40 dollars on a converter box or putting it in your gas tank so you can actually make it to work it is obvious what you are going to pick.

I think that the government should have been willing to just send you a converter box instead of relying on those stupid coupons. I'm sure they could have made some sort of contract with one of the companies that makes them.

I really don't care one way or another though since I have cable tv and highspeed internet and can watch whatever I want to online if I did decide to get rid of cable tv (which ...

No, the converters are $50 at Walmart ($60 at Best Buy). The coupons give you a $40 credit, so consumers only have to cough up $10.

The excuse now is that they ran out of funds for these coupons. Stupid... Congress can easily authorize more funds for the coupons (which they have) without altering the switch date -- people have need more than a year of constant nags from all sides about this... its stupid...

The people that haven't yet switched are not going to switch, even given a few more months. They won't til they are forced to...

The FCC should mandate shutdowns, at least once a week (analog TV blackouts for 1 in 7 days, from Feb til June) just so folks get the messages. That's the only real way to motivate those remaining...

Oh, yeah. Advertisers will love that. That's why I don't watch television. I know advertisers wouldn't pay those enormous sums of money if it were no effective.

you shall not say same thing if you're 60 or older
ppls on such age are difficult to accept new electronics, some even stick with TV for over 20 years old (rounded edge screen)
the receiver with coupon is very cheap (even down to $15), but some may even has no clue how to get hooked up without help
I have all my devices upgraded (slingbox HD-PRO, ATSC DVDR, with 2 HD receiver box, I set up one of them for upstairs), it's no sweat if you know how to connect electronics
rather than saying such heartless words, why don't you help ppls out to setup DTV boxes?!

I don't think we should be heartless and insulting, but I don't think they should delay this any further.

And don't think all or even the majority of 60 somethings are all that technology illiterate, sure maybe not up to everything, but they are quite active, buy fairly modern cars, many do have fairly up to date tv's. But what they do have and many of us don't, is the need not to constantly be up to date with every new device or model that hits the market. Yes they will keep their 15 year old or older tv that works fine.

couldnt have said it better myself. I work in sell phones and its amazing how many older generation people come into my store and complain about how much technology has changed. THey just cant understand this new fangled stuff. I would feel sorry for them if I didnt see them get out of their 08 Benz or Porch or Chrystler 300s. It really confounds me sometimes.

ps. happy early b-day

I think it could be they grew up in a very auto savy generation, they had their tbirds, corvettes, jags, mustangs etc... Some pretty hot and cutting edge for the day, and they tweeked them even more. But as far as phones, it was to make a call, or say hello. And probably for the most part, that is all they want.

To be honest, some of these phones are pretty damned complicated. Even to change a ringtone can be hidden and hard to find. (hint s60).

While I agree with you, most of the time they complain about simple free phones. I wont even get into pdas like a Bold or Iphone or the e/n seris from Nokia. Its almost like they bitch just for the sake of bitching. Now, not all older people do, ive met a lot that love the new stuff and are willing to learn but for the most part they just bitch. I know Im not the only one either, this has to be a industry wide common theme.

This is what our Government is doing for us?! This is the kind of garbage they are supporting? With Pelosi's $200,000,000 for contraceptives and this delay...why should we not absolutely trust the Government. After all they know more than all of us! I am sooooo glad I am not a Democrat..it is embarassing..REALLY!
