I have a TV from 2004 that doesn't have the ATSC tuner built in. I tried holding off, but my RCA TV from 1994 quit working after 10 years, and there were still way too little in the way of ATSC tuner TV's in 2004. That was because the TV makers kept holding off on putting them in TV's, even as the original date was creeping up on the makers.

It was either 2005 or 2006 that TV makers were mandated to put ATSC tuners in all new TV's. If TV makers hadn't balked at the idea earlier in the decade, we would have had more TV's with ATSC tuners built-in much sooner. I even have an...

I agree. We brought a 60'' HD Tv in 05 that dont have a tuner in it. So there are tons of people who have tv's with no digital tuners in them. And I damn sure didnt have the tv long enough to replace it especially considering how much money I paid for it.

Plus in response to the OP.... If people had a dvr, most likely they have cable of satelite and dont need a converter box.

Last time I checked all or most OTA channels are currently in HD. So that make your whole comment invalid. Then you contradicted yourself. Why would anyone buy a tv with an analog tuner when analog is about to be cut off soon. It makes more sense to buy a hd tv especially since you can find them cheap these days.

And just for the record I have Direct Tv but watch my local channels in HD.

For some reason you are not comprehending my comments. Yes directtv in my area have local channels included. But im not subcribed to a HD package because I dont watch tv that much and find it to be kind of a ripoff. On direct tv you have to pay for the reciever, pay a hd subcription fee, pay a lease fee, and pay a dvr fee (if included). On top of all that you have to give back the reciever when you cancel your service. Most of the channels I watch are primetime television on major networks. I would rather watch them OTA 1080p/i/720p than to watch it on directtv...
