Someone at T-Mobile should have informed Verizon...

to not even waste their time and resources on this.

Any honest sales reps that work for T-Mobile would tell you that the reason why their aren't many major companies going after this market is.....because their is little to NO MARKET. Each store in the region I work sells maybe 3-4 a month and usually 2-3 of them get returned.
Here's the problem with T-mobile@Home. Most people who have cable or DSL typically don't use or have a home phone. A fraction of the people that do have both high speed Internet and a home phone use it for business, which will usually share the land line with a fax machine. Problem is, getting a fax machine to work with the service either requires you to use an online fax system or spend extra money on equipm...

There is one flaw in your argument. You assume t-mob customers have the same marketing preferences as Verizon. That could not be further from the truth. T-mob is a value wireless provider similar to the way cricket and metro pcs. There customers are a very different demographic then this device is targeted for.

It looks to me like this product is targeted to the middle class family. Hence the ability to coordinate schedules. You are correct this product would not sell to tmob customers. This will not be a huge seller with Verizon but I think it should be profitable for them. It will also help them to win back some of there land line service from companies like skype and vantage.

This product is not intended to be a stand alone produc...

If anything, I think your response further solidified the point I was making. Your absolutely correct that Verizon and T-Mobile have a very different demographic...
The T-Mobile demographic consists of people who don't want to spend a whole lot on their monthly bills and are willing to sacrifice a little when it comes to reception and phone options, as well as pretty much miss out on most of the advantages to having 3G.
The Verizon demographic consists of people that need to have coverage in remote areas and are willing to pay extra per month for it. Also business users who need fast data devices and laptop internet cards.

So where do you see a market for this with Verizon?

Only a very small amount of normal Verizon users...

ummm...yea I have. Which is great because it's PORTABLE. I don't see the point of having PDA functionality in a home phone when you either have a blackberry in your pocket or...ummm well, your AT HOME 😲 Use your computer. You must have a computer at home, otherwise why the hell would you have high speed internet at your house?

The other point is that it can synchronize your contacts and stuff with the phone. Not everyone has Bluetooth adapters sticking out of their PC's USB ports.

Wow. you're the most uninformed person i have ever seen on this site. I sell about 10(counting same month returns and from previous months) of these a month myself, the store does between 25-30. I would say 70% of the customers i talk to use ATT/comcast and the other 30% either does not have one or does not want one. I have only had a handfull of customers who have their alarm system set up through it.

Lets say for example somebody has 2k min with t-mobile and 3line family plan. They will pay $110 a month (before taxes and whatever add-ons) but they are using about 2k-2.5k a month and keep going over. Instead of upping their plan by $30 a month you can just have them get a house phone for $10 a month. VERY EASY TO SELL!

For the people...

Well if you read through my other reply in this message list, you would see that I did point out that the @Home service doesn't sell in my market. Maybe it does do well in other markets...and yea, your right about their only being a handfull of people that are interested in it and have a home alarm system. I was mearly pointing out that the few people ARE interested in it usually get weeded out from either fax or home alarm issues and the couple left that are still interested will buy it, take it home and 60-75% of them end up on our return shelf.

You left out the part where the average person is too stupid to figure out how to plug this in and make it work. 90% of these things get returned. Some of those returns are for the reasons you listed. A lot of them are from people that "spent 5 hours on the phone with tech support" and can't figure out which cables go where. It also doesn't work with satellite internet.

And Verizon is crazy for charging $35/month for it. All of the extras are completely unnecessary. It's $10 more expensive than Vonage, the biggest VoIP provider. It's really not even that much cheaper than just regular land line service through quest. Verizon really missed the boat on this one.

LOL, very good point. Actually I don't think this is a bad idea, I do think its absurdly over priced, even Verizon (not wireless) charges less for VOIP over their FIOS connection.

Last time I tried MagicJack the Antivirus went CRAZY with alarms about a Trojan and a Keylogger. The fact that MagicJack customer service didn't even deny the fact that they Spyware your computing usage and even boasted about it didn't help either.
