Verizon Wireless Announces the Hub Home Phone

VoIP

Why is Verizon Wireless going after the home phone market? Because it is there. I understand that most of us do not have home phone service. This service is not targeted towards us. Basically, anyone who believes that home phone service is antiquated should not even be bothered by this product. A good sales person uncovers needs and once it becomes clear that you are not interested in the Hub (the giveaway will be either your condescending smirk or irritated grimace or perhaps the simple "I'm not interested in that.") will move on in the sales process.

There will likely be a question in the sales outline which they use in the store that the representative will toss out there. If you are not interested then they will simply move on and sell you what you want. Sales reps job is to offer you the available services. Yours is to buy what you actaully want.

Now, someone is out there paying Vonage $24.95 a month for VoIP. Someone is still out there paying AT&T, Verizon Communications, and a host of smaller landline companies $50 per month for basic phone service. Verizon Wireless knows this and is going after a piece of that market. How is success determined? I would imagine that if they still meet their year over year adds in wireless and pick up some Hub subscriptions as well...that will be deemed a success. Going head to head with Vonage...the Hub is $10 more a month and for that additional amount the customer gets integrated Chaperone, VZ Navigator and Unlimted Messaging to VZW customers.

Now, if all this is worthless to you then you will tell your sales person in a disparaging manner no doubt and the rep will move on. However, for the one or two customers who have a desire to hear more and perhaps even purchase the thing...their needs will be met as well.
