When Sprint Did This...

When Sprint did this you guys went nuts, but if holier than thou ATT does it, "it's just common business practice". WTF?

This article had 49 comments, with roughly all of them, excluding a few loyal sprint fans, bashing Sprint and contending that the ship is sinking, and everyone should bail before we go down with it. Sprint may be ranked third in overall customers, But 50-some odd million customers is still nothing to sneeze at. That's still double what T-Mobile has, but I don't see nearly as many T-Mobile bashers as I do Sprint.

The only argument most of you have is that Sprint's CS is crap. Granted, The CS was horrible roughly a year and a half ago, but that has continually go...

use to be maybe, but Sprint's EVDO network is no where near Verizons now. and will never be.

Verizon owns the majority of the towers in the US now and all Alltel towers that Verizon will take over will become EVDO Rev A. Thats why it will take longer to upgrade all Alltels towers, they still have Digital only on towers in West Texas, no 1XRTT.

Sorry Sprint, you lost again for Data. Not trying to be mean, but you know Sprint will be no where near Verizons EVDO service at all.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you...

Sprint's EVDO is equal to or better than Verizon's. And when it's not, it's because it's roaming on Verizon or Alltel's Towers. Sprint won the overall Data trophy for a reason, and with WiMax coming, the gap is just going to grow larger.

Verizon owns Alltels towers!

Alltels EVDO is Verizons EVDO!

I wonder WHY sprints tv stuff doesnt say "Largest 3G network" anymore?

Take biggg guess smart one.

I agree that Verizon has increased their EVDO dramatically. However, Sprint is working extremely hard and fast to deploy WiMAX around the country. Combined with Clearwire, these two companies hold an immens...

Ok, what im saying is Verizons coverage (Alltel is now Verizon as well sense they OWN all of Alltel)
Is 2-3 times the size of Sprints.

Verizon and Alltels 3G service together is a whole lot bigger then Sprints 3G service. Sprint does not cover rural areas at all really. Alltel does and so does there 3G.

Please just change your name to vzwkoolaid

Let me know how alltel data speeds compared to sprint or verizon...you said yourself in another post that verizon was going to have to spend a lot to upgrade towers in certain areas to boost the data speeds. I'm confused 🙄

VZW shared a lot of coverage areas with alltel. Double coverage does not equal double the coverage, there is only so much real eastate in the us. If vzw didn't have coverage in areas they had roaming agreements, just like every other carrier. You act like they bought them out to get better coverage. I'm not saying it was a bad business move but alltel didn't have much that verizon coveted except for a customer base. And maybe chad 🙂

Once again please show me...

yes, i know they have been able to Roam off Alltel, but not off Alltels 3G network.

Alltel has a pretty good EVDO network. but they have some spots, mostly out in West texas, that is being upgraded by Verizon right now to 1X-EVDO Rev A where Alltel only had a Digital network with NO 1X. Alltel started upgrading a lot of its Towers from EVDO Rev 0 to EVDO Rev A but not all of it also.

So now that Verizon owns Alltel, we take in Alltels EVDO service where there wasnt even Verizon, like parts of TX, LA, AL, MS, OK, NE, NM, AZ, MI, AR, GA, FL, ect.

When i said coverage, i ment 3G coverage, sorry.

Verizon NEVER had EVDO roaming like Sprint and Alltel did.

Now Verizon has EVDO Roaming in Canada & United States.

I am not disagreeing with you Tyler. However, Sprint has all the 3G coverage in the places that matter the most. I am not saying that rural areas are not important, but the demographics of the population that rely on 3G in current times are indeed covered with the Sprint network.

Verizon made a wise move in this for two reasons:
1) Eliminate roaming paid out to Alltel for using t...

Sprint and Verizon do not have a 3G roaming aggrements. Same WAS with Alltel and Verizon.

BUT Alltel customers can now access Verizon EVDO service in places Sprint does not have it.. Like Huntsville, AL. Sprint has like 2 towers of EVDO, thats it. And it doesnt even go threw the whole city.

So if Alltel went there, they would pick up mostly 1X unless they were close to the EVDO service, but now Alltel customers can access Verizons EVDO service which covers all of North Alabama.

Could you be more of an ignorant fanboy? PLEASE let me know where you are getting your information? ALL alltel towers will become evdo rev a...? You mean like all vzw towers are now? Oh wait a second, they aren't. Neither are sprint's.

Show me the most recent test that shows anybody beat sprint in data speeds

Eh the Sprint bashers will keep bashing us. I'm happy with Sprint. Never had any problems with CS. Service has been excellent, even up here in the darkest most remote reaches of Northeastern Connecticut. I'm happy!

The real question is: Why are there Sprint, Verizon or AT&T loyalists in the first place? Yes, I have Verizon service now, but if I could get a better deal with Sprint tomorrow then I would switch. I wish everyone would chill out. If you work for Company A or have service with them then just great. Do what is right for you. All this clannish venting... Let's put a stop to it. I want ten wireless carriers...not three. So right now America is trending the wrong way. I hated the ATTWS buy out, the Nextel buyout and the Alltel buyout. I'm not saying that they didn't make sense for the corporations doing the buying (except SprintNextel that was simply a horrible idea) but for consumers less competition equals higher prices. Hopefully ...

As well, Sprint's Data network has always been awesome, and Gizmodo proved it by giving us the best ranking overall in a test at the end of last year.
