It looks like this will be some of the newest features in the newer model phones to be released. I'm sure Blackberry will get a hold of this soon! Great idea!

Seriously, I love this phone, I wish Sprint got better reception where I live. At the office it will be sweet.

Good job Palm!

Hey if it's going to keep me from being late. Down load info from wiki, maps and show me where the nearest starbucks is and not nag me because I'm spending too much at Bath and body works on my lunch break, it can have an AI. I don't care. LOL

Ahh, I was wondering what the heck you meant the reference to Dave, I looked at the username of the poster that you replied to and he doesn't use the name Dave in his username.
But now I get it, very funny.

Hopefully software will ALWAYS ask us what we the user prefers, and not ever make decisions for us, the user.

Good bye battery life. Its a good idea in theory but constantly running GPS and checking were you are can't be good for the battery.

That's why you get the wireless charger and stick it on your dash or your desk... check up the Palm site and read about the charger...

I'm beginning to think this is the iphone buster.

Beginning to think an iPhone buster. When it was introduced at CES I believed it to be superior to the iPhone in many ways. Time will tell, but Sprint was not the best partner to go with; but rather the last for an exclusive. AT&T (iPhone), Verizon (BB Storm), T-Mo (G1). 🤣

I am not a real fan of exclusives for any phone. I am not at all clear if the Pre is anyway. Although it will be introduced first to Sprint, that doesn't mean they have an exclusive and if it is, it may not be for that long.

Can anyone clear the exclusivity part up?

I believe Sprint has exclusivity for the first 6 months - year.

Which means for 6 months to a year, Sprint will be stealing a lot of customers.

Exclusive means just that, EXCLUSIVE! Sprint will be the ONLY American carrier with branding on the Pre. Palm said the next version will be a Euro GSM world ready version released in regions Sprint does not serve. Then shortly after that Canada will get a version. In a nutshell, Verizon has the Storm, ATT has the iphone and Tmo has G1.

Sprint has full and complete exclusivity!

Not Necessarily. Phones are only licensed for a set period of time with any one carrier. if after the original contract (usually 6mos - 2yrs) any phone manufacturer wants to license their phones to other carriers, they can.

I don't know, I saw some vids of this phone, and I do wish it does what they say, but the promo's and the youtube video of the investor who looks like the freak scientist from Independence Day, sorta reminds me of watching a "Vince" from Sham Wow! commercial.

As the iphone is married to ATT, the Storm is married to Verizon, same is true of the marriage between the Palm 'Pre' and Sprint. Palms CEO specifically said the next version(s) of the Pre will NOT launch in regions served by Sprint!

What part of that do you not understand?!

Give me a reference, I'll follow up, and then you can quit being disrespectful. And to follow up, Apple's relationship with AT&T is only for 5 years. I don't know about Sprint's or Verizon's contracts with Palm or RIM, but the existing contract for iPhone on AT&T is only for 5 years (Which expires around June or July of 2012). No contract made is "forever".

I typically do not get involved in a back and forth tit-tat, here is something for your reference:

According to the press materials, Palm hadn't intended to announce a timeframe for the 3G GSM version of the Pre this week, but Ed Colligan can pretty much do and say whatever he pleases -- it's one of the perks of wearing the CEO hat -- and he's apparently mentioned in an interview with IDG that it'll roll out in the first half of 2009. That puts the model right in line with the launch window for the CDMA-based Sprint version, giving the carrier virtually zero exclusivity on the global stage -- so if 1337 h4x0rz can figure out how to unlock the thing (and if we were betting folk, we'd wager they can), this all means EDGE-only Pr

That IS very true. In fact, all of the phones I have with my GSM carrier were purchased over-seas. For example, I have Verizon's "exclusive" chocolate phone for T-mobile. It's just a GSM version I purchased out of the UK...

Who's to say the same thing can't happen with the Pre?

And the Cricket store next door will unlock your phone for you if they think you're going to set up service with THEM on it... you can just say you changed your mind after you get it flashed... 🤣

Check the CES blogs and you'll see. Rich Brome was at CES, and I think he mentions it on the discussion page when he's answering questions about the Pre as well as the blog mentioning it being exclusive to Sprint...

In fact, if I remember correctly, one of the sentences reads something like: "...When the announcement was made that the Pre was going to be exclusive to Sprint for at least 6 months, no one in the audience clapped."

... Ha. Well we'll see who'll be clapping when it's crushes iPhone sales. At least the battery isn't soddered into the Pre. 🤣

What are you talking about?! Out of ALL the carriers, Sprint has the best relationship with Palm! That's why Sprint is getting the Palm PRO AND the PRE and the PRE is going to be an exclusive handset to Sprint for at least 6 months!
