The iden network allows off network ptt. while Verizon's crappy network does not. Oh and it's a crappy ptt service in the first place. So I agree Sprint has the best network for this service. Besides it's a network that would otherwise be wasted in a couple years, might as well go for the good. Just had to educate the Verizon and At&t fan boys. 🙄

verizon rev a ptt will ONLY work if you are in a rev A area. which means the ptt goes through data... you cant use data if you are on a call, you wouldnt be able to use it if you were on the web, roaming, or even if you have perfect coverage but still not in a rev a area. nextel will work without using internet, and even if you lose coverage for some reason you can use the off network ptt. i know for a fact verizon, att, or any other company does not offer that kind of service

no they didn't sell the network, the fcc is giving sprint time to migrate iden customers to the sprint network. as of now sprint offers DCS phones which work on rev A, soon sprint will roll out wimax and PTT on DCS phones will still deliver the ptt call in less then a second

Verizon rolls out the COWs out to disaster areas and consistently has their towers back up and running right away. Nice examples are Katrina and I think Ike that hit Houston last year. Leave it to Sprint to ask the Feds for help in boosting their inferior coverage, or their horrible customer service, or their flailing finances, or keep them from losing more and more customers.

You know..just wanting to set the record straight for the Sprint Fan Boys

Sprint had its network up and running after Katrina within 48 hours. Plus, they loaned phones to their competitors while they worked to get their own systems up.

Okay stock is in the crapper, yeah i got that. But let's take a look at what you are saying:

boosting their inferior coverage

Put down the kool-aid please. If you are looking at sprint, att, and vzw coverage is not much different. I would actually say from what i hear and personal experience att doesn't even belong in the conversation (inside the united states). Sure sure your phone gets coverage where mine doesn't in some places and vice versa. That's why there is more than one company to choose from. Want more proof? Ask gizmodo

their horrible customer service

PSA to everyone reading this: You guys know companies improve in areas where they were failing right? Sprint is not...

Not that I'm a fanboy for any particular carrier at this point, but I wanted to let you know you are incorrect about the PTT only working over Rev A. Perhaps you should research before posting such a wrong statement. PTT on Verizon works on the 1xRTT network as well as the EVDO Rev A, however, the Rev A solution is simply faster.

Technically, neither does NEXTEL iDEN PTT. But that's because NEXTEL is the only iDEN service!

Nextel is not the only iDEN service. There's also SouthernLinc: a regional iDEN carrier that operates in four states.

Yo, AT&T and Verizon's network is much larger, Sprint and Nextel don't even have service where I live (Mendocino County, Northwestern California), so they'd be useless to first responders here. Not to mention much of the rural west has no Nextel or Sprint, but much of it is covered by Verizon and/or AT&T, so yo, Nextel fanboy, go somewhere else and peddle your junk 🙂 Nextel would be fine in the big cities, but out here, no way.

Hey ilvla2 aka calif1mc, you don't live in Mendocino County, do you? Wow, I never would have known.

As for Nextel iDEN network coverage (or lack thereof), that is entirely irrelevant, as this first-responder network proposal calls for "satellite-based" COWs tha...

It's a joke...ok. All I can say is WoW, you actually think that comment is true 😳

For someone so paranoid about being followed around the forums you sure make the best effort you can to keep that paranoia going 😲
