Circuit City Gives Up
Good
We already had one store close by us and the deals were crap. I found cheaper prices at amazon.com and walmart.
i bet if i waited in line at 2am, and when store opens, they will say we already gave voucher away at 1 am! WTF!
grow up and recognize that there is NOTHING good about this for them or for you....because you dont know how this is going to affect you, but it will.
All of the cheerleaders whining about their god forsaken keyboards not being ready..."I didn't save $5!!", Get a clue - less competition means higher prices at other outfits. Again, ever get an education? Still living in your moms basement? You sound like complete fools. I hope you all loose your jobs at McDonalds and are forced to go make the same wage selling cheap chinese good at walmart, you fools. Some Americans are so pathetic...and STUPID.
I could turn around and say that technology and communications have changed so much not only in the United States but globally in the past decade. How many people shopped online in 1955? Obviously none. How many people shop online today? A great many. Some do it for convenience. Some do it for price. There are a great many online retailers that are American. Newegg, Frys, Amazon, and Overstock are just a few online retailers. Circuit City was never a top online shopping site. It didn't adapt to the way consumers are changing their spending habits. It died. That's the way things go, sometimes.
Circuit City should have created an online business under a separate brand to compete w...

Places like Walmart came along, paying horribly low wages, offering few to no benefits to their employees, using sweat shop conditions for manufacturing, and because of it, they would sell things for a lower price. Being short sighted, people flocked to these stores to save a few bucks, and local businesses ended up going out of business.
The result? Far less jobs paying a sustainable wage and far more people struggling to get by. Not to mention horrible customers service and lower qual...

It's nice to sit and use Wal-Mart as a whipping boy, but the truth of the matter is that American companies in all sectors that do not require face-to-face humans for customers service typically outsource manufacturing or back-office operations to foreign countries. From some areas of the business standpoint, if you can hire an Indian who is smarter, cheaper, and does a better job than his American counterpart, would you be willing to pay twice ...

I said "large national chains" in my post to show how it disrupts the flow of money.
I don't just sit around and complain about it. I inform other people of the situation because many have never bothered to consider the matter...which is what I did here. I also do not shop at national chains as much as possible, and have helped many others make the same choice.
There are more options than "Go with the flow or go under." We can see that it is damaging to our economy, and make lifestyle choices...

Many people, especially young people who don't start out with massive fortunes, feel the brunt of this. In 1960, I bet it was unusual for a college student to graduate with a student loan debtload of $30,000. But now, it's commonplace. If you save $5 per day every day for a year, you've managed to save over $1800 in just the course of the year. Take that and apply it to everything in your life, and you can take smaller incomes and do much better with them.
Also, it's tough to spend extra money when you don't have to. Think about how home prices have doubled, the way gas has gone up, food has gone up, but real wages stay about the same. That $5 is suddenly more valuable to you.
It would be nice if we all had enough m...

Like everyone if you can save a few dollars you will. But I would be more than willing to pay that extra $5.00 to get better service. Unfortunately for Circuit City they were more expensive and had horrible customer service. Why do you think places like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy always has people in them. I've been in Circuit City and its completely dead.
Bottom line, they had bad business...

No arguing there. Their bad business practices led to lower customer service, which led to lower sales, which led to lower wages, which led to lower employee morale, and to subsequent lower customer service.
It still sucks that thousands of poor schmucks are back to unemployment. 😢

Exactly!
In this economy, as others have pointed out; Consumers are of the mindset, "Save,Save,Save" and Retailers as well as governments shout "Spend, Spend,Spend it's good for the economy".
There are people who value superior Customer Service. Heck it's what I do. Every person that buys a cellular product from us gets a phone call from me, thanking them; following up, answering questions that weren't answered in the store, trouble shooting problems and otherwise servicing their needs beyond handing them a phone and a car charger and sending them out into the world.
I would spend 5 bucks more on an oil change and drive an extra 10 miles, if the guy was ...
