The study is incomplete. It shows deaths and accident rates of 6% but neglects age groups. We need more info. We need to know how much of that 6% is the young. I have to believe the majority is teens and their inexperienced driving which is already being evaluated within the cell industry and government to help eliminate this potential.

This ban would also greatly effect so many businesses that rely on getting in contact with Sales Reps and/or management. This would have an immense reduction in productivity within the corporate world of todays essentials. Time is money and much would be lost with this ban. Instead of moving forward, We would almost be transitioned back to the 70's and 80's of doing business.

This safety group is still...

When these laws do gain a foothold, they tend to expand like wildfire. Its easy to add to it once its there and sadly politicians love to leave their mark on things. 🙄

In California, we have already expanded from a handsfree law into no texting and emails within a year. I expect more restrictions.

Meanwhile, there is no problem putting on makeup, driving with your feet, reading the paper, closing your eyes and finishing a 9 course meal all within the comforts of the drivers seat đŸ¤Ŗ

I once seen an accident. It was cause because the driver was picking his nose and looking at what he found up inside. đŸ˜ŗ

Actually you can get a ticket. Cops can give you a ticket for driving while distracted.

Yes, your right if it impairs your ability to drive while doing those things at least in California. But if you are some kind of crazy master at it, there is little they can do.

I don't condone the behavior by the way

I agree! That is why I have a big problem with the NYC jamming. The Government has been trying desperately to pass the bill to allow spying on phone converstaions and it has been hit with every opposition. This is another ploy to get in through the back door.

On this Ban: Who can pass up a freakin' prime rib dinner, watch the game read the paper and listen to the radio all at once on the way home? I personally don't want an accident getting in the way of all that! 😁

But seriously. This ban would be ridiculous. Crack I tell ya. Crack!

I'm reminded of an AT&T commercial:

"Beep. Chad's phone here. Want to tell him to avoid the highway cuz of an accident? Pick up something on the way home? Family emergency? No can do cuz he lives in the united states and can't even look at his phone while driving"

Yeah, this will never pass, but it has made for a fun thread to read 🙂

Absolutely. I'm sure "business" people need to do business while going 80 down the high way. I'm sure they will make a very smart investment call on that note. That argument just doesn't hold water. Your primary objective when driving is to concentrate on the road, and getting their as safely as possible. Unfortunately, since many people don't have that same mind set laws need to be enforced to prevent the cell phone distraction. Maybe some of these people deserve to get in an accident as a wake up call to PAY ATTENTION, but they are also the reason insurance premiums continue to go up for the responsible drivers who actually use a motor vehicle correctly. Police officers can not cencentrate on those who are eating, etc but you can limit ...
