"The CTIA trade group, which represents the wireless companies, disagrees with the NSC's position." [on banning cell phone use in cars]

Well of course it does. Imagine the revenue that would be lost just from the lack of airtime involved in people making calls while in their car. This is considered down-time for most and a good time to catch up with a friend, check in on a relative, or maybe call home with some dinner prep instructions, while you're sitting in traffic. Never mind maybe a necessary call to check directions, or alert daycare you are on your way. Then of course, there is the loss of revenue from Bluetooth devices. Although they are nice to use when you are home, jabbering away while you fold clothes, they really are intend...

While I do agree that cellphones shouldn't be banned from cars, I have to be honest and say that when I'm on the cellphone, I do feel a bit distracted from my driving. I think it's because I have to focus more on the call than I would when speaking to a passenger, because 1) I can hear a passenger more clearly than a person on the other end of a cellphone call, and 2) because out of the corner of my eye, I can see the passenger and his/her facial expressions and gestures (i.e. their non-verbal communications).

Actually putting on mascara and eating in the car is against the law. You can get a ticket for driving while distracted. If a cop sees you doing something that they feel is a distraction from driving they can give you a ticket. I don't think a cop will pull you over for taking a drink from you soda, but something like reading(yes I've seen people doing that) they will stop you.

Why should that be banned? Essentially it is only a GPS without spoken turns and without live moving maps. 😁
