NYC Police Want to Jam Cell Phones During Terrorist Attacks

I guess I don't mind, since...

...I don't live in NYC. Not allowing me to use my cell phone (which I mainly use for phone calls, internet, text messaging and the news) would be like temporarily holding me hostage. If this is something that's seriously being considered, I would hope there would be an opt-out provision for those who don't want to be temporarily cut off from their co-workers, friends and family.

Consider this: Your new wife is pregnant with your first child and is trying to get a hold of you because "it's time", but she can't and you miss one of the most important moments of your life. You also miss one of the most important moments of her life. 30 years later you think back about how you missed out on that because the police jammed your cell phone for a false alarm.

Now, I'm not saying this is a likely situation for most people, but there are a lot of people in NYC and I'd be willing to bet that a lot of them will not want to be without their cell phones.

Ultimately, the only reason my phone should not work is if I don't pay my bill.
