It kind of makes sense because there are ways cell phones can be wired to a bomb and programmed to blow up when a phone call is received. Jamming the signal would prevent the explosion.

If terrorists can plot ways to use mobile signals to detonate a bomb, they can find ways to make it detonate when coverage drops or loses signal too - this is a back up plan. IM SURPRISED NO ONE THOUGHT OF THIS TOO!!!

Personally I rely on my mobile phone as not only a "mobile phone" but also as a "landline" and "dsl internet" modem, so cutting me off also is like severing my ability for "news", "advisories" and "emergency services", and THAT is not okay!! EVEN IN TERRORIST ATTACKS FOR SAFETY!

Is NYC planning on another attack or something? Maybe tin cans and string should be the mode of communication when they shut off mobile systems.

That's a very good point. Would probably do more harm than good.

yeah, it would do way more harm than good. Making sure the couple people who would be on their computer using their cell as a modem at that exact time of the attack to look for safety directions is much more important than lets say... stopping a bomb. C'mon, its a terrorist attack and people are crying that they can't make a call durng it?

LOL....Did you just get done watching the Dark Knight by chance? The crazy bastards that attempt these kind of attacks are normally on kamikaze missions anyway but stopping any communication they have could help.
