Phone????

I watched the video of the Vegas demo. They never just used it as a phone! They didn't demo dialing a number.

Sure I can call from contacts but for the numbers I call frequently, dialing is faster. I've had a Treo 650 with touchscreen dialing and the qwerty keyboard. They're both lousy.

Why should I be optimistic about this?

Well for starters the Treo 650 and the Palm Pre are not running the same OS, the Pre is running a new built from the ground up OS designed by Linux. There are several videos floating around the Net that show the dialing capabilities.

OS doesn't matter. It's all about the ergonomics.

I'm an average size guy but when it comes to devices like these, I feel like the Incredible Hulk. The iPhone, Storm and G1 don't impress me either for the same reason.

'Guess I'll have to switch to AT&T and get that HTC phone with the dual sliders, one for dialing and one with a qwerty.

Valid points.

If this is a half baked effort and it doesn't live up to what it is on paper it will fail along with the company probably.

There is a hungry market out there for smartphones, and if they did it right it will be a great seller 😁

Really? I don't know anyone's number. I don't even know my mom's number. Why would I? It's all in my contacts. I use the dialer maybe once a week, only to dial companies I don't call regularly. (800 numbers, etc.)

But that's just me. 😉

Of course it does have a dialer:
