This means: iPhones on GoPhone! Which means: no contracts! Which means, I could - potentially, finally - use an iPhone with my AT&T ERP plan!

Unless there's some handy-dandy loophole that would prevent this, which is pretty much inevitable with AT&T.

Ah yes, but with a GoPhone contractless plan, I can immediately cancel the service with no ETF, then just switch my SIM card, disable the data settings (I can live without 3G; wifi's everywhere I go), and I'm on my merry way. 😁

Then again, the article mentions that there's no actual sales online, just pre-qualification. We'll see, though - I can't imagine them having in home activation without the GoPhone option, as they did with the 2G iPhone.

you could probably use if for a gophone but then you are looking at retail price for it unless you buy it from places like amazon or ebay or something like that. the reason the 2G iphone was like that was because it wasnt subsidized for any activation price. it was 3 and 400 either way. and yes iphone data isnt available on gophone.

You won't be able to add data on if you do a prepay 3g. Since the 3g data is $30/month and the 2g iphone data is $20/month.

And all that PYP/PAYG allows is unlimited data for $20.

its not that its just that the iphone has a proprietary data plan thats separate from any data plan that we offer.

...thats kind of retarded. and if you do order the iphone and cancel within 30 days youll be charged for the equipment...makes no sense why someone would buy an expensive device like that and only utilize a third of its features.....

It makes perfect sense: what if you don't need 1/3 of the features? I need a GSM phone, a document reader, email device/web browser, and music player. I don't need 3G data for any of those features (especially since everywhere I'll realistically use data is already covered by wifi).

I don't know if there's going to be any restriction on prepay 3G iPhones, but if there is any no-contract option, I'll be all over that. I've been waiting for quite some time for the refurb iPhone 2Gs to come up again, but still nothing.

Yea I guess, in that case why not get a blackberry curve. But that's just me, they're cheap enough anyway. Plus anytime you activate an iphone through itunes it signs you up for a new 2 year agmt. But good luck with the prepaid lemme know if it works out...

A Blackberry BIS plan isn't cheaper, or much cheaper if it is then an iphone plan. BTW, I happen to like both platforms.

You can only use the iPhone 2g on PYP and you HAVE TO HAVE the data package for $20

the iPhone 3g has to be used for 2 year contract service- it performs the credit check when you order the iPhone online and if you have deposit at&t will make you call in AND pay the deposit before they will ship it out to you!
I reiterate you HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DATA PACKAGE no matter what and you have to activate the iPhone 3G on a 2 year service agreement

🤣 HAHA sux to be you 🤣
