This is new so Sprint does not own the technology they will only act as a provider for the Wimax service with the hardware. Clearwire will offer Wimax to whomever has Wimax enabled handsets, whether it is Sprint or whoever else. I wonder if Verizon will make Wimax handsets.

Verizon won't be using WiMAX, they will be using LTE.

Do a little research first.

Of course since LTE isn't due out for another 3 years at best perhaps Verizon will consider using Wimax handsets...unless of course their customers are satisfied with using a inferior data network...

Verizon isn't going to temporarily divert its own customer traffic to a competitors network for a number of years. Verizon is going wait until LTE is market ready and that is what it is going to use. So Sprint will be a MVNO on Clearwire and that means it will be 4g wonder why Verizon did not go the way of Wimax if its here now and easier than what LTE will be.

Sprint owns a 51% stake in the new Clearwire corp. Cannot be a MVNO of a company ya own a majority share in. They are partners in a national deployment of a 4g network.

The way it's structured, Sprint will act as a MVNO. The newly merged Clearwire, of which Sprint owns 51%, shall be independent from and managed separately from Sprint Nextel. Operating as separate companies, Sprint will act as a MVNO to Clearwire's WiMax network. Sprint Nextel will not be running Clearwire.
