With some clarification, it's an even *BETTER* idea

See the Update part - the OS restriction won't apply to business phones or phones that are based around an operating system already. So it will be some kind of tiered system:

- dumbphones/smartphones running Symbian (probably with some option to have either a simple UI for phone neophytes; or a more standard, customizable version of Symbian)

- above that would be the iPhone, Blackberries, and Windows Mobile business/superphones/umpcs. (Does anyone honestly think Palm will be a competitor in 6 years? Or even still in business?)

Keep in mind that they're moving to Symbian; *NOT* a proprietary, locked OS. Will there be c...

Personally I haTe how much all carriers interfere with handsets. That's why I buy unlocked/unbranded, so I can be assure the handset I have is -- 100% -- UNTOUCED by AT&T, straight from Nokia to me.

I admire your intelligence but I am not buying into this pitch by ATT. Our company highly recommends to itself and supports the use of WinMo for our choice of business. Despite the obvious quirks, it has proven to be indispensible in the productivity and we would not accept a deligation of force into a another OS. We use HTC with WinMo as our primary device for its intuitive adaptabily for what we command. By the article, It seems HTC could still be one of the targets of the ATT restructuring. Not at our expense!

I do not work for any carrier. But I do know there is a fine line between a smartphone(with data capabilities)and PDA(with phone capabilities)
However, ATT noted BB and the Iphone to be exempt with no mention of HTC which in fact is a PDA. This can preclude a thought they may also feel HTC is not worthy of the WinMo platform under their branding. If I am correct in this response and they do wish to position themselves for this, an alteration of an HTC device would be a horrible setback to the many businessmen that remain loyal to use HTC devices with WinMo under an ATT contract.

I'll resist the temptation here to say something pejorative about your intelligence, but I will say this: read the article again (the Boy genius report update linked above), it's pretty clear that they're not going to get rid of the Windows Mobile or Blackberry platforms, nor the iPhone.

Again, by the time 2014 rolls around, what we think of a smartphone will be drastically different. But there's always going to be a range of devices, from the more "simple" devices at entry level (simple, of course, being relevant) to the "B...

My Reply:
Holy Crap! I guess I had that coming! 🤭

I appologize. My compliment to your intelect was indeed sincere and genuine. It was in no way intended to convey you were buying into the "original" representation of the article. It was a precluded interpretation of the article on my part. In reading the article again with update, My opinion has been rendered as understanding the theory behind this pitch.

Also, Your choice in resisting to disapprove of my intelect in itself, is most frightening. 😳
I thank you for sparing an abrasive comment. However, the mere projection of your subtle hint eluded that I may need thera...
