If AT&T wants a single platform,
Then why don't they JUST carry Blackberries for their smartphone lineup? I am sure RIM would be more than happy to manufacture a diverse lineup for them. Why do they have to go to great lengths to piss people off? Geez, I'd almost label them Verizon!

because not everyone wants to use a blackberry. that's how blackberry actually has become so populalr. not everyone wants window on their phone, so they go to blackberries

Right, but if they are going to Symbian then they aren't going to have Blackberry or Windows or even Palm as a choice. I just don't know how smart that is. Sure, HTC and Palm may manufacture PDA's with that software on it, but I don't see Blackberry putting out a phone with a different operating system on it. Kiss those business customers goodbye if they can't convince them that Symbian is better than Blackberry or Windows Mobile.

Exactly. If you only look at it as a way to reduce overhead by requiring less training for the staff, then yeah, it's a good idea. But if you want a PDA with AT&T and you want Windows Mobile, you are screwed.
