No surprise there: Clearwire is the company that's had the success with WiMax, so it's logical that they would be in the driver's seat (or at least, the branding scheme would make it appear that way).

Plus - "Xohm"? Lame; good riddance.

Probably doesn't hurt to 'rid' its name ties to Sprint, which has been performing poorly over the past year or so.

Um, F.Y.I... Sprint bought Clearwire (via nearly $4 billion, as well as some assets in exchange for 51% of the company) and the entire idea from day 1 was to lose the Sprint branding in every sense. But make no mistake about it, its just the branding being lost, Sprint made sure to shift a few execs over to Clearwire, so I dont expect much of a change in the way business is done. Saying Clearwire is in the driver seat is synonimous with saying Sprint is in the driver seat, in essence lol.

Sprint's investment wasn't just so they could gobble another smaller provider, or to join forces with only other major WiMax carrier in the US. Clearwire made WWAN with WiMax work from a business standpoint, and in at least a few places (lotsa places up here in the Puget Sound region) established itself as a strong competitor to majortelecoms & ISPs. That kind of business acumen is exactly what Sprint needs right now.

They'd be foolish to throw out the leadership of Clearwire.

WOW.....that is the first thing they need to do is rid the company of its poor leadership. They have a terrible time keeping talent, turnover of almost 200%. They have a inferior product requiring customers to sign a contract for the same thing they can get month to month from several providers........and look out now Cricket has launched its EVDO broadband 40.00 a month with NO contract. Wimax has a long way to go before it can truly compete, and with the current leadership at Clearwire its even farther away.

Lte has an even farther way to go. Try 5 years to go. Do you have any idea what your talking about 🤨 I guess not 🤣

On top of that its gonna take billions upon billions of dollars to make lte a reality. And WiMax is already being deployed worldwide and lte is still just a theory that has no test markets unlike WiMax. And every laptop sold with an intel chip will have WiMax capability, take that lte. So why not use the service? lte if and when it does arrive will cost more than WiMax. Htc has already released the worlds first Wimax phone which means there will be more to come. The future for Sprint and Clearwire is bright and WiMax is the future.

The best offense that WiMax(Clear) advocates can deploy is to realize that it does have a hurdle to jump in order to succeed. Clear now has to market this quickly and with precision. It needs to be launched as swiftly and accurately as possible to the demographics of population. The Spectrum is already there and covers almost the entire states. Every carrier has thrown support for LTE which is slated as the World Standard. This was done by savvy marketing as well. In essence, LTE will be the most likely path. However we need to adjust ourselves to at least promote Clear as the greatest alternative available until LTE arrives. The benefits of Clear is that it is not only 3-5 times faster than what is currently offered wirelessly. It is also a...

Opinions like yours on the Wimax subject are expected. The push for LTE has piqued the interests of many phone geeks and commercial consumers alike. Thus somewhat creating an over shadowing of Wimax as not being formadible. That's the power of marketing. Wimax however is a most definitely a very comparable technology(for which both are intended) and is indeed an amazing advancement from what we are used to in wireless internet. This being said, EVDO is nothing like this experience. This is the next step from much slower speeds that you are used to. LTE is not too far off but Wimax or "Clear" should not and is not being ignored by others. Realistically, LTE is still baking in the oven but will only become reality in roughly 2-3 or even 4 year...
