I would like to know if this phone requires you to have a data plan, since I am not very familiar with Verizon's data requirements. I would be interested in this device just on a regular phone plan, not data.

My guess is since it's a Windows Mobile phone it'll require a data plan also.

So carriers are TELLING customers how they should use a device that the CONSUMER paid for? It's should be up to the CONSUMER how they use they're handset?

The point is carriers shouldn't be telling people that they HAVE to have data, all phones have cameras now a days carriers don't dictate to people that they have to have an MMS plan on they're acct. It should be up to the CONSUMER how they use they handset, and what services they want to support they're handset, not the carrier.

In most cases requiring data on phones actually benefits the customers. Many of todays PDA type phones are data-centric and require data plans to function properly. Some phones don't even send MMS without data plans now. Bottom line is these phones are made to work with internet so if you dont want internet don't get the phone!

All I'm saying is it should be the CONSUMER'S CHOICE what is on they're acct., and they shouldn't force things on to an acct.

Isn't it a bit like buying a Ferrari and then griping that you have to put high octane fuel in it. If you want the phone to work properly and do what it is designed to do, it is going to need that data plan.

I think it's like the cable company telling me I have to subscribe to HBO and Showtime in order to use my cable. Everywhere I work, I can get wifi. As long as the device has wifi, I don't need a data plan. This is just wrong.

Why buy a phone such as a iPhone, BlackBerry, etc if you don't want to do the data plans? Might as well stick with a normal mobile phone.

I work in cell phone sales. We make the majority of our money from data packages. Why purchase a data device if you aren't going to use it to the fullest extent? Most companies give you 30 days to test the device you buy. If you think it's not worth what you're paying for, then bring it back. PDA/Smartphones are designed to give the user everything he/she could ever need in a cell phone. I rarely sell a data device and see it returned. Most people purchase them and then wonder how they survived without them. All of the major carriers require data packages for PDA/Smartphones. It's not going away. Wifi is great to have on a cell phone, but who wants to depend on the ability to log in to a wifi network all the time? Plus, not everyo...

I disagree entirely. I have a PDA phone (Moto Q) and don't want a data package. I use the calendar and contacts linked with Outlook that you can't get on a non-PDA phone. I will probably leave Verizon if I can't get a new PDA phone on a voice only plan so I am not surprised that others also want Windows mobile functions without e-mail/web access.

I agree w/u. Consumers shouldn't be told how to use handsets that they paid for!!! If you want to use it for voice & camera only that should be up to the consumer, if you want to use it for voice & music only, that should be up to the consumer.

It's frinkin outrageous carriers telling people how to use they handsets! ! ! ! !

With programs like Iphone book, wireless sync and other in vcast system, many handsets can accomplish those feats. But i see many customers come in that refused data pckgs despite warning about how easy it is to use data, and for it to add up. The point of these devices is to be mobile connectivity platforms. If this is what you want, but without the mandatory data, go to the dare. The camera's not as good, but 3.2 is still great and the phone's performance is great as a phone/lifestyle organizer.

oh yeah i work for VZW. have tried this phone, and WOW, the panoramic camera is phenomonal(sp) and very easy, with great quality

I have been with verizon with treo 700w and xv6800 for nearly three years. Verizon has a pay as you go plan or 10 mb or unlimited plans for data. Pay as you go 1.5cent per kb. If you dont use data at all you dont pay anything. Yes blackberries on verizon as well as most carriers require 30 dollar plan.

I agree with jbs15. I have had a Moto Q over 3 years, primarily to sync with my Outlook files contacts, calendar and tasks. I have no need for a data plan. When I did have a data plan I only used it infrequently; wasn't worth the monthly charge.
