...let's hurry up and standardize on Micro USB.

Imagine: you buy one energy-efficient charger, and it will fit every phone you own after that.

Less frustration, less stuff in the landfill.

You are 100% correct and in addition charge extra for new chargers instead of packaging them with phones

Sounds fair enough.... but don't count on it.

US cell phone manufacturers and carriers are so obsessed with being proprietary that it would never happen.

Good idea though.

this doesnt sound like there will be any profit made. So no dice. Many people would want this to happen however

i've noticed that some LG phones (like the env2) are going to the micro usb, which the new motorolas use...

and today i saw that vzw bb storm uses the micro usb as well.

so there is SOME transition going on to what Squid suggested at the begining of this thread
...
