It seems to me that the amount of power these chargers use even when charging a phone is so small. Surely there has to be better use of the time to make bigger impacts than saving such a tiny amount of power.

thats kind of the same thing i was thinking, especially when its not charging a phone. obvisiously it still uses some electricity, but its gotta be an incredibly small amount.

True, but take that incredibly small amount, then multiple that by the amount of cell phones out there. Not sure what the actual number is, but i bet there are 100 million cell phones in the US and 2/3 have chargers wasting an extremely small amount of power. That can add up.

I've heard the same about google. If they made thier page black instead of white there are thousands of killowatt hours of electricity that would be saved every year because a computer take a little bit more power to display a white screen instead of a black one.

Yeah, also keep in mind that the typical consumer leaves thier charger in a wall socket for the entire two year agreement... straight.

Last month I started to unplug my phone chargers and my power cable for my laptop and believe it or not it made a considerable difference in my power bill.
