What the article didn't say is the the FCC also tacked on an additional 5 markets to the 100 markets that were already voluntarily given by Verizon. So Verizon must divest 105 Markets! They must also submit to more stringent E911 policies to be controlled at the individual county level, and there are other provisions regarding the Universal Service Fund.

Unlikely. Most of those divestitures are in markets where Verizon would become the A and B carrier and thus have a monopoly.

If it is verizon or no one what do you think they will do? There are plenty of places alltel is the only carrier in backwoods areas. Why because they are the onyl one that wanted to. And a monopoly can not be said about a nationwide carrier jsut because they are the only carrier in a certain location.

currently the FCC uses a spectral screen to determine if there is a monopoly. It is not always that Carrier A would be the only carrier, sometimes it is wether the spectrum available in an area will allow an entrance of another competitor to market. Those areas would fall into that category.

my point is the FCC will not stop (if spectrum available) service in an area that has none. Whether its the biggest carrier or a small one. One is better then none. And sometimes the bigger ones are the only ones that can financially do it.

There is a difference between being the only company that builds the business in an area, and being the company that has bought all of your competitors until there are no more!

no there isn't because if they went broke and were bought or were about to then it is either get bought or have nothing there. And the FCC allowed it so what can they say?
