Essentially, in markets where the newly combined company would hold a virtual monopoly on spectrum (i.e. currently, Alltel and Verizon are the only providers), they must sell it to another company.
...
US Cellular would be the most likely buyer
...
Which will probably in get eaten up by Verizon later 🤣
...
Does that mean that Verizon will stay and someonelse will buy Alltel or that verizon has to sell it all to somone else?
...
verizon wont have to leave they will sell of either or to a third carrier I belive

Did any other Sprint reps just feel Sprint get a little more elbow room in their coverage?
...
Do you really feel Sprint is in sights for the divestion?(if that is what you are talking about) I have not seen any indication of this. While I feel demographically this should be a move on their part, I do not feel it will happen.
...
It really all depends on where the spectrum is, and how much becomes available in the areas they need it. In my neighborhood, if there are any divestitures in Northern Michigan, Sprint (or Sprint's affiliate iPCS) should jump on it.

I have info that leads me to believe that Sprint will not bid on this but who knows if it will change. I can not disclose info on this forum but I can tell you that Sprint is in the right direction to put themselves in a top competitve edge once again.
...
I dont even think sprint will have the money to buy any.
there not going too sale Nextel, insted upgrade it...
Sprint is already in the hole.

Dollars are a factor but not the total issue. ATT has a 73 billion dollar debt still on their books and Verizon was 34 billion in debt. Now Verizon has added another 28 billion with the acquisition of Alltel. Money is cheap but to make the right moves is crucial. Sprint indeed can not put themselves into more of a debt. But they are now far more aggressive and in a better position for defining a more competitve edge. I feel 2009 is going to be a milestone year for Sprint.
