For any of you Verizon users out there I was curious to know if it's possible to be on a phone call and text message or browse the net at the same time? I'm really thinking about switching from AT&T and selling my iphone đ
...
Not possible. It is a limitation of EV-DO technology and not the phone itself. In another note... don't jump ship from an iPhone. I am telling you... this is just one more iPhone clone in the long list... it won't match up when it comes to fluidity.

Yeah, although PhoneScoop, Engadget, and Gizmodo, all said this is the best touch screen of any device, you are right. Although this phone has a better screen and speaker phone, according to the reviews, you are right. Also, although this phone support gps turn by turn directions, cut and paste, stereo bluetooth, mms, and upgradeable memory, none of which the Iphone can do, you are right. Although this phone can do video recording, which the Iphone cannot, you are right.

truthfully? I think EliteABombAZ is jealous. He's a not so smart one and bought an iphone. Honestly, the only thing that I like about that product, (Apple's mega super duper pile of junk) is the fact that it paved a path for every other manufacturer to get off their kiester and produce a phone similar, with the flavor of manufacturers that have excelled at making their products in the past.. IE: LG and the DARE, even the VU is decent, Samsung and the INSTINCT, and the ROXY, Even Nokia and their new Xpress 6800. It's about time that the big three like this get shaken up to make something decent. Blackberry is an excellent manufacturer of devices, and I'm sure this will be the absolute best device made in a while.
Thank you Apple ...

Jealous of a phone? Not quite. I had an iPhone... and I sold it. Not because it was bad... or it lacked any features, but because I didn't like the monthy costs associated with having one. Blackberry devices have similar costs. I chose to instead pay only $30 per month on SERO... with Sprint. I am fully aware that no phone on Sprint gives the experience that iPhone provides... but I am doing without to save money each month. If ever tempted to switch back... (which I have been lately) I would go back to an iPhone... or a T-Mobile G1... NOT this WannaBErry device.

WannaBerry?
You wanna send mms? You wanna tether with 3G? You wanna copy n paste? You wanna use stereo bluetooth? You wanna upgrade your memory? You wanna record video? You wanna use gps turn by turn directions? C'mon, you think the Iphone is better than the Storm, so besides wifi......what do you "wanna" do? Oh yeah, and if you are within 30 days of purchasing your Iphone 3G, and you want to return it for a full return, do you "wanna" pay a 10% restocking fee just to do that?

he is mad he cant use it on sprint. and probably mad he couldnt afford to have an iphone or bb plan. not everyone can drive a porsche, but dont hate on someone that can.
someone drank their hater-ade today đ

blackberries have never ever sucked. the blackberry community is probably already bigger than the itard community and the only thing that makes the iphone worth anything is Touch Touch. honestly thats sad. they did NOTHING in the iphone that hadn't been done before aside from a touch screen. you can't even send picture messages. i mean seriously try explaining that one to a customer who just dumped hundreds of dollars on the stupid thing. RIM did the right thing in waiting to put touch screens on their phones. eg th p910 or the 6700 or the 6800, all garbage touch screens. it was a wise decision for them to wait until the costs came down and the technology was more readily available. and anyone who hates on a blackberry has obviously...

Did everyone miss the fact that this phone has Rev A and it will be able to do phone call and data at the same time???
Just another thing the iPhone can't do.
...
bkw79Oct 9, 2008, 11:25 AM
It will be able to do phone and data when it is using HSDPA/HSUPA, not using Evdo Rev A. It even says that on blackberry's website about the Storm.
...
Are you guys seriously going to sit here and act like children fighting over which phone is better???
It's apparent that differing preferences mean different ideas of which is best. Get over it. Quit being each company's respective fanboy and recognize that someone else might have a different idea of what makes a great phone. There is no such thing as a perfect network either. They're all about the money, and they all have problems. Sheesh.
And for the record, the iPhone can do data and phone at the same time. AT&T uses two different networks for data and call.

I'm sorry, but did someone actually question or ask whether the Iphone can do data and phone at the same time? And secondly, it was an Iphone fanboy who decided to enter a forum specifically talking about the Blackberry Storm for Verizon who started this. What I did, is point out facts, after he just criticized the Storm and said the Iphone was better. And you are right, people have preferences, and I pointed out the differences in my posts.

Ahh, I just read where someone said the iphone couldn't do it. I still don't understand why you have to engage him/her.

att uses 2 different networks for data and voice? care to explain?

I am 99% sure I have Talked on my phone while surfing the net tetherd with a evdo 8800

send text pics video or email while on call yes... browse the net no

i cant send pics/vids on my dare while on the phone, and could never do it with a winmo device
...
you actually can do that on the blackberry storm tho. thats one of the reasons why i cant wait for this phone. if you look at the video that vodafone has put out they said that you can do net and phone at the same time.
...
You can do this only on the GSM version of the phone because data and voice are on different channels at the same time, but CDMA is either voice or data on a single channel. Vodafone show that video, because their main Radio is GSM not CDMA like the US version. Thus in the US you cannot have voice and data at the same time.
...
I believe both Verizon & Vodafone are getting the same exact Storm, in the U.S. it'll work on CDMA EVDO Rev A., and in Europe on Vodafone it'll work on 3G using the 2100mhz band, that is prominent in Europe.
Similar to the T-Mobile G1 working on Tmo 3G in U.S. 1700mhz, and Tmo 3G in Europe 2100mhz.

not similar - Tmo in US and Europe are both GSM - Verizon and Vodafone are DIFFERENT technologies - CDMA vs GSM. thus they will not be the EXACT same storm. they will have different radios.
...
The Storm 9530 has CDMA, while the Storm 9500 does not. Both versions have GSM and HSDPA.
...
So your saying the one from Verizon can work just fine in Europe's Vodafone, but Vodafone's Storm won't work on Verizon here? Am I understanding you right? I kinda thought Verizon & Vodafone were getting the same Storm, just as Tmo in Europe & Tmo in the U.S. are getting the same G1, intercontinental device.
...
Well, it would make sense. Why would the Vodafone version need CDMA? If people want to roam with it, having quad-band GSM would suffice.
The T-Mobile analogy isn't quite apt since T-Mo in both the US and Europe is GSM.
...
I get what your saying, Vodafone customers can roam in the U.S. using AT&T. But they can't roam with 3G.
...
well i have at&t and i have the blackjack 2. i can talk and text but like the other person said you cant be on the internet and talk at the sametime though.
...
AT&T has the only 3g network in the states where you can use the internet and talk at the same time. Verizon DOES NOT have that at all. Have you tried going online on the blackjack 2 while on a call? My iPhone 3g does just fine. On the Storm I would assume only talking and texting at once. I wouldn't think you could sent pics/video because that uses the data network. I may be wrong...but i dont know how else the phone would send pics or vids
...
i meant 'couldn't' send pics/video while on a call. sorry for the typo
...
I am a Verizon user and I have no reason to want to be on my phone, browse the Internet and text message at the same time. The most that I have done is text message while in a call.
...
Even if it does 2 out of 3 of these tasks at once, I am sold. Would be nice to be on a call and look something up for a client. The Palm OS I have can't do more than 1 thing at a time.
...
If performing all that at once is important to you, then stay where you are. CDMA will not allow you internet access while on Voice calls. However, the new WiMax will. Wimax not only allows it, everything will be performed through internet. So the price of WiMax will include everthing. Just thought I would throw that plug in. đ
...
I want WiMax in Vegas âšī¸
...
Yes. WiMax would benefit Vegas. đ
Jay, I have a question. Your use of skyfire piqued my interest enough to download the .08 version. It appears to be beta. I am using it as an overlay for WM. If I install it as the default, will I be able to regain use of the original WM navigation if I don't like Skyfire?
...
First of all I have Skyfire loaded on my N95-3, a Symbian device, not WinMo. Secondly, I don't even know how to set either Skyfire or Opera Mini 4.1 as a default browser. I would think if you can set Skyfire as your default browser, that you would also be able to un-set it.
...
everytime I launch skyfire, It asks if I would like to configure it as the default browser. It works great as it is but tends to render sites slower than I would like. but not bad at all. I would like to see if defaulting it would speed up the rendering. WM does list it as an additional program as being able to remove however I don't know if defaulting skyfire will remove that option. I am really enjoying it and may just wait for the final version.
...
Oh, I guess this default feature must be new on the Skyfire .o8, because I still have .06, I'm still waiting for Version .08 to become available for Symbian, supposedly it shouldn't be much longer.
Warning, skyfire does take up a whole lot of battry!!!
...
Thanks! That is good to know. I will probably try it anyway.
...
So to PROPERLY answer your question, you can talk and text at the same time, but not utilize the data network ie., e-mail, web, etc while on a call.
I don't know how Skyfire got brought into the question? đ
...
I dont quite understand why people are saying you cant talk and browse at the same time on verizons network. I have a blackberry pearl and i can be on the phone and surf the web at the same time so why would the storm be any different?
...
I was thinking the same thing.. I currently have a bb pearl & I am able to back out of the call & goto the main menu to send msgs in and out ...

You're wrong about this phone's ability to do simultaneous voice and data. You're also wrong about an inablility to do so being a limitation of the EVDO network. The reason this will work on the Blackberry 9530 is because it has 2 modems that are each capable of both 1X and EVDO. This is one of the huge upgrades from the 8330 not to mention the 4.7 OS and 1GB onboard memory. The ability to do voice and data simultaneously is one of the biggest reasons that I'll be purchasing the 9530.

BTW: This all comes directly from Verizon. ;-)
