You would require a device that has WiMAX support.

But truth be told, and in all reality, unless one is intending on tethering, the strain on the battery from another radio drain like wmax may not be worth the speed you will get for phone data activities. I mean the damned webpages on these phones with evdo-a or hsdpa seem to pop pretty quick as it is.

One benefit might be if you intend to do data and calls at the same time.

A WiMax chip is required to receive a WiMax signal. No phones are in production at this time except for maybe one. Sources tell me The Nokia N810 maybe out in the beginning of '09. the other key thing to remember is once the launch happens, the rollout will extend to other markets rather quickly once the initial system has finalized the fine tuning.
The other cool thing about this new technology is WiMax chips are already in the final testing process before being installed in everyday stuff that we use. The most obvious is computers. Others are TV's, DVD systems, appliances, home security systems, cars Etc.

I'm very stoked for this!
