If they require the $100/month plan, count me out. 3G isn't even available where I live.
...
As far as I heard, it will be just like any other phone. YOu can use any plan, but it could change.
...
Newer phones are requiring the 3G plans $69/$99(unlimited).
It's too expensive, especially if you have a second phone. You can't get just one phone on the new plans and another phone on an older, slower plan.
...
Just when you thought one would only have 2 feet to put in one's mouth...
The only one of 7 phones released since the new pricing release that OBLIGATES you to a plan to use the phone is the Instinct, period. No others have and there arent any specifically slated to do so through the end of the year.
Also, OLDER SLOWER phones are perfectly compatible for shared services with NEWER 3G phones, no real exceptions to that. In fact, on the old plans, Nextel and Sprint were ineligible for shared plan minutes together, and on the new plans tehy are.

While that is the company line, try activating a blackberry on a new account on anything other than a talk message data plan
...
VDubbSep 10, 2008, 1:30 PM
You can activate it on the 700 Talk Share plan, just not the Talk/Message plans.
- VDubb
...
try activating anything NEW without an everything plan, and you cant. its sprints current offering. Prior to this a blackberry was not to be sold without the $30 blackberry pro pack, so BB users are actually making out better on the new deal...
...
I talked to sprint rep & you DO have to change to an everything plan for at least the touch pro because i wanted to upgrade from the mogul & then you can not get you're employee discount if you have one for the plan ,I had a long e-chat with a sprint rep yesterday & broke it down to me. Hoped this Helped
...
why do you think you have to use the $99.99 plan? you have to probably use one of everything plans which range from $69.99 to $99.99 for individual...
please go to sprint.com and look up plans but with what the phone can do why would not get a data and sms package? it would be silly, i mean really 450/$69.99 btw includes the data and sms so why would you complain?
...
Well, the 69.99 plan doesn't allow you to add a phone at the cheaper plan rates. Neither the $69 or $99 plan do. If one phone has them, they all have to.
It's just crappy cellphone plan manipulation.
...
get a grip guy... both the $69 fmaily share and the $99 family share allow added lines, and start out as 2 lines anyway. whatever you decide to do, stop being so negative about something that you should have gotten over back in June when these plans were actually new.

Do some research. There are Talk/Message/Data plans which starts at $129.99 and gives you 1500 minutes for two phones.
- VDubb
...
We barely use 500 minutes.
...
VDubbSep 10, 2008, 4:37 PM
That's great...however, you missed the point. You're commenting that you have to use only the $99.99 plan with not options for add-a-lines (i.e. family plans) when all I'm doing is proving that there are options.

While Sprint has been 3g capable for years, EVDO towers are not available in all markets. Despite this they still have the largest 3g/evdo network available.

true thanks for filling the hole there 😉

EVERY Sprint phone is 3G. 3G for CDMA is CDMA 2000 1xRTT which is supported by every phone from Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, etc. EVDO is just a data-optimization on 1xRTT. Do not confuse GSM/UMTS/WCDMA's evolution path with CDMA/EVDO.

You shouldn't need high speed data plans to use phones. Sprint forces you to use 3G pricing when you shouldn't have to. Phones are 3G capable if I'm correct, not necessary.
...
Sprint doesnt force you to do anything. DONT USE SPRINT. Its that simple. Like most things, there is freedom of choice at play here. If your wants leave you feeling like you NEED to use Sprint as opposed to someone else, CHOOSE another one of over 20 phones that do not require you to change to a EVDO plan, and carry on with your life.
...
Thanks for the insight.
...
do u realize how assinine (sp) your comments are becoming. 🤣
In the US Att and Tmobile are the only carriers who have yet to go full 3g while sprint is working on 4g with the WiMax service. I have to agree with carmodboy99 in that these plans are nothing new, this is September and these plans rolled out June/July with current pricing and its not much different than the plans that came out in December 07. difference being that Sprint sees not many people just use their device for ONLY talk so why not bundle all services for one low price.

First of all, do some research and educate yourself before complaining. EVERY Sprint phone is 3G. 3G for CDMA is CDMA 2000 1xRTT which is supported by every phone from Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, etc. EVDO is just a data-optimization on 1xRTT. You and others arelost in the whole 3G iPhone era, confusing GSM/UMTS/WCDMA with CDMA/EVDO.
Second, the pricing on data plans are the same for EVDO and non-EVDO phones.

I'm sorry. I confused something about the new plans.
Our current plan is shared on two phones with text and internet as add-ons. Two phones are cheaper now than one phone on the Everything Plan.
My issue isn't so much with required or not required phone plans with Sprint, but Sprints evolved plan structure.
You learn something new every day I guess.
So can you still add messaging and data to something like the Talk plan?
...

Sorry, I meant that as a Talk Shared plan.
Because we would love to have two new phones, like the Rant, for the $70 Talk plan and just add messaging and net access like we do now.
Since our last contract, the plans have changed a lot.

You can stay on your same plan with the Touch Diamond. Data plans start at $15 and go up to $30, depending on what features you need. In order to get that $100 MIR, you need the $30 Pro Pack, but after you receive the rebate, you can downgrade to the $15 Data pack.
And in case you're wondering, the $15 pack includes web browsing, email, and tv/music basic. There is a $10 add-on (totaling $25) which gives you GPS and TV/Music premier. The $30 Pro Pack includes web browsing, email, tv/music basic, GPS, and Unlimited Text.

As far as messaging add ons, you still have the $5 for 300, and $10 gets 1000. without the Pro pack though, unl text is $20
