why would someone want to do this on a mobile network anyways. i can see once or twice on vacation or something, but otherwise, i'll stick to my 20/5 fiber connection at home for my P2P needs. i'll download my stuff a HELL of a lot faster there than any mobile network.

the evdo networks don't do too bad, on my ppc6800 i was pulling between 600-800kbps and it worked great when i was on the road

sadly, not everyone have the goodness of fiber yet, give it time! 🙂

I believe that AT&T did this intentionally to avoid getting hit with lawsuits against the music and movie industry over illegal downloading. I really don't think it has anything to do with bandwith.

you may be suprised, bandwidth is the singel biggest obstical in the wireless industry. in fact is is sucha huge issue that LECs (local exchange carriers) can barely provide enough bandwidth to power current wireless networks. one of the biggest reasons wimax has been delaied with sprint is due to the fact LECs such as att and verizon are unable to provide the back hall (data lines to and from the cell tower) nessisary to the cell site. Sprint will actually gain a huge advantage by haveing its 4g network out so far ahead of the pack.

when LTE is finally avalible for deployment most companies will not be able to deploy it do to the lack of high capacity data lines avalible. think about it. if verizon att and tmob all try to build there lte...

Maybe I'm not privy to the details of Sprint's 4G WiMAX deployment but wouldn't they have backhaul issues as well? I mean, they gotta' connect to the internet backbone at some point someplace, right?

Sprint/Clearwire's Backhaul will be backed by Google's fiber network. They currently hold the largest Fiber Network in the Country....

I'm glad Google chose to be friends with Sprint...

yes you are correct sprint is having major back hall issues. wimax was to be released last year but it had to be delayed due to the fac that there was no available infrastructure to Handel it.

right now sprint is the only company deploying this type of network and they are having problems. it will only be that much worse when 3 or more other companies attempt to do ti at the same time.
