The only reason I can see ATT doing this is out of fear of the new tech. Makes Sprint's latest decisions seem pretty on point doesn't it? This bodes quite well for the WiMax tech if a company is afraid of its nationwide deployment.

...I wonder if Verizon will jump on with ATT and also ask for some scrutiny.

I don't believe it's as much out of fear of new, (competing) technology as it is an act of "what's fair is fair."

By striking a deal with Clearwire, Sprint effectively sidestepped any and all regulatory measures every other provider would have went through. AT&T has been through it. Verizon has been through it. So why souldn't Sprint have to go through it as well?

I see it more as a move to kick Sprint while they're down...which is entirely acceptable in a dog-eat-dog corporate world.

who will wi-max be used for the same govt that is going to pass whether or not the merger is acceptable. I have a question as to what others think they might say. Maybe they would sound like this "No there will be no merger because we really would rather have slower data speeds." That wouldn't make sense and I cant see the govt taking too long on making this decision. The sooner that this deal is done the better for the govt.
