Verizon Wireless Agrees to Divestitures to Acquire Alltel
Albuquerque, New Mexico?
I was thinking if Alltel's ABQ network is divested, it could possibly end up with Cricket.
I am also wondering though, could MetroPCS or US Celluar buy the Albuquerque Alltel network to gain a foothold here if it is divested? Of course, it would be the entry of a carrier that nobody in Albuquerque has ever heard of.
In the past it has not been uncommon to see complete new company names appear.
It is likely that Albuquerque is on the target list.
This is not a guarentee that it will be divested becuase if the spectrum holdings arent too high then there will be no reason to have to sell it.
If it does get sold i think the order would be the following
Cricket (Pre Paid does it fit?) How will the plans work going from contract to non i just don't know if Leap is interested in this.
US Cellular (Doesn't like to barrow money so no one knows what they might want)
Sprint ($$ Trouble)
AT&T (For Customers not network + rumor is ALLTEL GSM holdings will be sold off all)
Metro PCS (Prepaid again)
Remember when the old AT&T Wireless entered the ABQ market and launched a TDMA newtork, but then rushed their GSM network shortly afterward leaving the TDMA customers behind? That gave the old AT&T Wirless a bad reputation for coverage in ABQ.
The new Cingular/AT&T has greatly improved service in the Albuquerque area, including enhanced coverage and 3G UMTS/HSDPA.
Still, if AT&T wants to increase their market share in the ABQ area, maybe they will look into this. Albuquerque is primarily a stronghold for Verizon and T-Mobile.
Until then, you'll have to take me at my word.
